Saurian, an Original Race for D&D 5e

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Thought lost to history, or myths to begin with, by most civilized people, the Saurian are an ancient race with physical similarities to the behemoths of D&D worlds. To hear the Saurian tell it, they are the eldest race of the material plane and ruled the world for ages with strength and wisdom. A cataclysm in their past caused them to lose their grasp on the younger races and as fewer and fewer Saurian children were born, they eventually were left with few remaining enclaves hidden in remote regions of the world.

Divided into castes by ancient tradition and isolated from the rest of the world the Saurian are at a turning point in their history - cling to their past until the bitter end or strike out into the world and forge a new path.

Included in the Saurian race are seven subraces: Ankylos, Deinony, Plesios, Pteradas, Sarchos, Triceras, and Tyrannos. As of April 2019, this product also includes 2 racial feats!

This content includes a full color document & a printer friendly B&W document.

This is a wonderful optional race! The detail that went into this is obviously from a life long dinosaur fan and someone who wanted to truly make something amazing for the game!

Love this Playable race, great product. I've been running a Tyrannos paladin for about a year. I would like to see race-specific feats.

I hope these three suggestions can useful for you, and I fully intend to use your homebrew in a future campaign!

Additionally, I had a 4th idea, though this is more for thematic purposes. This is also a change for the Tyrannos:

Carnivorous XXX. You have rows on rows of sharp teeth which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d8 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. When you successfully attack a target with your XXX, you can choose to grapple that target as a bonus action.

This way it deals less damage, but has more utility. I also changed slashing damage to piercing damage, as you accidentally made it into slashing damage.

Correction: I would word the line that you could add to the 2nd and 3rd features of the Primordial Resilience as following:
"If you are a Sarchos saurian, then you add the temporary hit points you gain from your Scaly Hide trait to this amount."

And the text for the additional benefit to the Tyrannos its Terrifying Roar as following:
"You can choose to make this roar as a bonus action, in which case the range decreases to 10 feet."
Also I would place this text right before: "After you use your terrifying roar,"

The first change which I mentioned (with regards to the 3rd trait of Intimidating Size) should be properly worded.

I believe that this is more properly worded in accordance to the official material.

I quite like your race, they strongly remind me of Dragonbait and the Saurial from the Forgotten Realms setting.

I did notice a few things off about your description:

Under Intimidating size, the 3rd feature, you again added an existing trait to this feat. Instead, might I recommend the following feature:
*You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Also, could you add the following line to the second and third features of Primordial Resilience?
"If you are a Sarchos player, then you may add the temporary hit points you gain from your Scaly Hide trait to this amount."
That way their racial trait will not be wasted.

Finally, with the release of the Leonin, would you consider adding the following line to the Tyrannos its Terrifying Roar trait?
"You can choose to use make this roar as a bonus action, in which case the range decreases to 10 feet."
That way it will have more applications, and will...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
