You and your clansmen ran through the entire night, goblins are quick and elusive and especially so when carrying a hostage. It was now morning though and the earth was broken where their crude sabatons pummeled the ground, leaving a distict trail over the river and toward the begining of the craggy, where their cruel lair had been carved. You would have your fair Elana yet.

Whenever I played tabletop games there was always an encounter or an ambush in a forest or on a path and we never had tiles to show the environment and had to deal with pen and paper. While this can be fun there is a certain charm in having a battlemap you can whip out and lay down your characters and enemies. This is my first attempt at creating a battlemap in what I hope can become a whole pack of maps people can use for generic encounters on roads, town entrances, caves and forests that you wouldn't normally have tiles for.

This is my first map and so I'd love to get as much feedback as possible so I can improve them and deliver something people might actually use! In the future I want to make tokens to represent enemies, chests and traps and movable environments. For now this is just a single map with the following traits:

  • A3 PDF
  • 1 square = 5 feet
  • A Diagonal river
  • A slight hill
  • 4 trees
  • Some rocks
  • A few nice looking dirt patches
  • A map ready for multiple, varying encounters!

I think the best thing would be to go to a local Kmart or shop with printing facilities and print them out on the cheap. If there is demand I may just break maps down into multiple A4 pages. Please feel free to leave feedback and I'll do my best to incorporate it into the next maps I make.

I was about to roll out a similar project. I've had a busy summer holiday (Australia is south of you i'm sure). I'll keep watching your progress, and see if its worth continuing my own map production project.

Best of Luck!

I've just fixed an issue with the PDF (Hopefully) where you received an error and it wouldn't open. I've swapped it for a JPG and reduced the file size too. Apologies for anyone who downloaded it and was unable to open it, first lesson learnt! Please re-download the map and hopefully there are no more issues.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
