The Little People

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Sometimes helpful, sometimes harmful, fairies were once both feared and revered for their magical powers and winsome ways. The Little People is an excellent source for historically accurate fairies and includes:

  • Information on fairy characteristics, culture, and their interactions with humans
  • A unique perspective on how fairies differed among Celtic regions
  • 3rd Edition stats for all the famous ones you know such as Oberon, Puck, and the Leprechaun
  • A system for creating original fairies of your own
  • Suggestions for incorporating fairies into your campaign

Not some "bold, new vision" of the fey, these are the fairies as they were perceived by the people who believed in them.

The Little People is a supplement for the book Celtic Age and benefits from being used with certain custom mechanics introduced in that book. Originally published in 2002 by Avalanche Press, this classic is being brought back into publication by Tabletop Adventures.

What is this?

Tabletop Adventures has acquired a line of historical fantasy material previously published by Avalanche Press, Ltd. and we are excited to be re-issuing this classic series of sourcebooks from 20 years ago. While the game mechanics offered are those of the 3rd Edition of the “world’s best-known roleplaying game,” the excellent historical material and its fantasy applications could be useful with any system.

Aside from the ‘packaging’ and certain legal bits, the text is identical to that found in the original books published by Avalanche Press in the early 2000s. The writing and the conventions (including, for example, the designation of Open Game Content) represent the styles of the early years of 3rd Edition and should be approached from that perspective.

Many of the original covers had artwork that was suggestive (or even provocative), so as a nod to that, each book of the series is being reissued in a ‘plain brown wrapper.’

This is a pretty good resource for GMs looking to add authentic Fae lore to their games. There's nothing in here that you couldn't get by doing the research, but what's the point of a supplement if not to save the GM time? One note: for the love [...]

This is actually a good resource for being so cheap. It ccovers the lore of real world fairy myths anf converts them for the OGL rules. If you already know all the real world fairy lore there is, I wouldn't bother with this book, but if you want to fle [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
