About the Author

Tony has been a gamer for two centuries and counting. He was hooked the moment he set foot in Quasqueton while In Search of the Unknown.

He started DMing last millennium at the beginning of a magical age known as the 80's and has been challenging players ever since. To his astonishment and great pleasure several players have been with him since he first got behind the DM screen.

Tony's going to stop talking about himself in third person now, cuz – its weird.

I sure hope you enjoy these dragons. Let me know what you think, share some war stories in the comments, (especially if you have a group tackle the Great Wyrm Red!) and I'll have more for you soon!

I really like the option of having more dragons (especially since I'm running Tyranny of Dragons), but I'm not quite sure about the breath weapons on the Wyrm and Great Wyrms - any particular reason you've increased the die size instead of just the amount of dice?

Any chance you could adapt this to FG (Fantasy Grounds)?

Unfortunately I know nothing about Fantasy Grounds. I'm an old school person to person at a tabletop type.

Rob Twohy can do the conversion for you if you're interested, he is fair about it and has converted roughly over 100 DMs Guild products for other authors.

Do the life stages here fit in with the life stages from the monster manual? Do they replace?

Hi Zach - they fit in between, filling in gaps. If you click the full size preview you'll see a new age category chart incorporating mine with those in the Monster Manual on page two. You'll also get to see the entire black dragon lineup.

The mention of Venomfang -- it is a story? Is it set before, or after the events that presumably transpire in Lost Mine of Phandelver?

Its the story of the party I dm'd facing Venomfang in Thundertree. Just a little wraparound tale to bookend the real point of Dragon's Volume 1 - which is stat blocks for new 5e dragon age categories.

If you look at the full preview you can read the first half of the Venomfang tale, no purchase necessary. It's "Prologue - Home Invasion"

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
