Awakened Cog - 5e Race

Cogs are the world's newest and strangest amalgam of magic and steam driven machines. Most are no more than automaton slaves to their masters. But occasionally, a cog will attain true sentience and throw off the geases that once ruled their lives. Such Awakened Cogs are left to make their way in the world, usually as outcasts, feared by their once-masters for the dangerous possibility their very existence suggests.

The Awakened Cog is a living machine race for the 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons game. I created it based largely on the Warforged, with additions and changes for my Aeranos Campaign setting. It could fit nicely into any Steampunk and/or fantasy setting.

Why does this look like it was ported directly from the 3.5 Warforged and not adjusted for 5th edition?

Certainly took guidance from the warforged, but there are differences and modifications. I hope it proves useful.

It looks interesting, but it's too complicated as-is, and feels like it needs some work. For one thing, it's granting abilities that pertain to rules that aren't even in 5th edition. Nausea doesn't happen in 5e. That's what the Poisoned Condition covers.

Thanks for the feedback. What kind of things are too complicated?
The Nausea point is a good one. I'll fix that. Please let me know if you find anything else. I have one player in my campaign currently using this, and so far it's working out nicely.

It feels like it's using too many of the old 3.5 mechanics for 5e. My only real advice is, learn how the spells in the book work with regards to humanoids and constructs. That will be your guide. Then, learn how conditions work with regards to humanoids and constructs. Find commonalities between the two and make the race function accordingly. If you're interested in the both of us talking about your race in a more expedited fashion, let me know and we can work something out, but as-is, there's too much of the old 3.5 in this. I fell into the same problem in the planning stages of my Warforged race.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
