The Night of the Rise - Adventure

ADD TO WISHLIST >

"Simply put, this is one of the most unique adventures I've ever read."

"...twists that turn the classic bandit clearing cliche on its head,..."

The Night of the Rise is a unique adventure that offers the party an alternative to the "hack & slash" approach. The opportunity for role play is high and it is sure to tap into skills and abilities most of your characters never knew they possessed. Not only does it offer a new experience for your players, but hopefully it has them smiling several times during the night.

A request to deal with a bandit captain named Giles Ne'Ville sends the adventuring party on a two-day journey. During this journey, they find an entertaining way to deal with this Giles Ne'Ville. Will they use this opportunity? Or will they take the typical 'hack & slash' approach to dealing with villans?

This adventure is written in a non-specific location but is easily insertable into any campaign as a one-shot adventure. I feel that it would work great in Strom King's Thunder as an added traveling encounter.

The Night of the Rise is an engaging adventure written for a party of four or more characters of 1st-6th level, with recommendations for higher level characters. Approximate runtime is 3+ hours.

Hey Jeff love the module, by any chance can you send me a word document of the main redux pdf. I would love to change the name of the bandits and localize them for my players. My email id is djexams@gmail.com

Cheers!

My party had a blast playing through this adventure. The theatre element is a welcome novelty - at first, they felt a bit out of place when I stood them up and told them they would have to act out their script... But then they really got the hang of it. RP within an RPG, lovely.

This was so much fun to run!

I did this as a oneshot and my players ended up with a truly disturbing encounter with the performers, however. They were convinced for a while that the men were bandits sent to kill them so they prepared an ambush.
Eventually the men went to sleep and the Cleric cast Silence around the campsite. The plan was to capture and restrain the sleeping men. However, due to miscommunication, ignorance, or just being an evil XXX,
the Halfling Wizard cast Grease above the campfire. The men sleeping around the fire wake up engulfed. Shocked and confused they tumble around, trying to pat out and extinguish the flames to no avail.
Their agonising wails and screams cannot be heard from inside the Sphere of Silence. The nearby horses tied to the tree catch light too, unable to escape they kick and neigh silently as they burn to death.
The one man sleepng inside the now burning wagon jumps out onto the road on fire. He stumbles outside of the Silent Sphere and...See more

Just played this with my group. I left a full review in the review part. Though I'd also share how my party approached it. (Spoilers ahead.)

They decided not to interfere with the actors but rather followed them as "fans". With some persuasion this allowed them into the camp. They then offered to do the opening act and plotted the assassination as a part of it. After a showy performance, the rogue was teleported right up to Giles using the eladrin's fey step ability for a coup-de-grace-like sneak attack. There was chaos for a few moments involving liberal use of crowd-control spells. In all this Brill (thinking this was all part of the fighter-actor's plan) managed to finish off Giles and calm the bandits down. An uneasy peace was negotiated.

The party have now agreed to help the bandits out with their labour dispute (I had made them disgruntled out-of-work miners) because they were concerned Brill would just lead them onto more banditry like Giles did.

Here's a...See more

ran this tonight for my son and his friends, so we had 6 players who are college age and they had a great time....created level 5 pregens for them to use and we zipped through it in a few hours with very little combat, which did not bother them at all as they were having a great time with the roleplay aspects of it

I don't know if it's just me, but... the watermarks on this were a little heavy. Mostly not a big deal, but it would be nice if this included some unwatermarked versions of the player handouts. (Even bigger bonus if they didn't have page numbers and stuff.) I ended up recreating the contract with different calligraphy- and handwriting-inspired fonts. If those things came included, this would go from five stars to, uh, double secret five star plus plus.

I mean, despite that nitpick, I can't praise this enough. What a clever idea. Not just the basic conceit, but the setup of the unexpected encounter along the road, and the way it can play out... we had great fun with this.

Seeing that any nitpicks I might have had were addressed... I'd rate this double secret five star plus plus if DM's Guild let me. Thanks for making my favorite one-shot adventure even better.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
