Dungeons and Dragons 5e Spell Tokens

Dungeons and Dragons 5e Spell Tokens

This is a pack of spell effects for VTT 5e dungeons and dragons. (thats virtual tabletop folks :D )

there are 72 spell effect tokens saved as .PNG files in two sizes, at 140 pixels per five feet, and at 70 pixels per five feet (for those huge AoE spells)

The tokens are persistent spell effects, so... anything with a CHARACTER DISCERNABLE effect, and a non instant duration should be covered here, although anything larger than 120' has been omitted as too large to be practical in VTT.

Walls with casting options have been provided as a 60' straight token, and also a circular or spherical token where appropriate.

They have been designed with transparency in mind, to allow the player and dm to select characters and monsters under the tokens easily, without resorting to layering plugins on the maps.

Additionally .MOD files for fantasygrounds have been included in the download package, to make use faster and easier :D

These look awesome! Adding to Encounter+ (iOS app for 5e) and noticed there's no Ice Knife (hit + explosion) - any chance of adding it? :-)

A couple years ago it was remarked that backings were not added to these because layers weren't supported in the default software.

With the release of Fantasy Grounds Unity coming soon, will you be adding slight opacity or drop shadow to this so it can be used as an asset with the new software?

when i created these, i originally used variable transparency, which of course doesnt work well without layering, but i kept all those (frankly BETTER) files.
when the new version comes out, i will test those, and if its not prohibitive, i will update those tokens yes.

Kinda a noob here. Couple of things I need help with. Downloaded file and moved to my modules. I'm able to see the spell tokens, under my tokens tab on fantasy grounds. My players are not able to find them under their token tab, so how do they get to them. Also when I drag a spell token to a map it sizes itself to one square. I have gotten the a layers extension since others commented that's how they got it work, but I've had no luck so far. Please help.

you will resize them manually, on the map. this is a pain in the butt, but until the newer version of FG comes out I cannot do anything to change this.
As DM you must control the icons, (including scale) as neutral characters on behalf of the players. they control their charcaters, and as DM you control "neutral" icons like spell effects, summons etc. they still enhance the game.
I find that as a DM knowing players spells and loading and scaling the icons, ahead of time works well. it is NOT optimal, but it IS great to have someone cast something and just make it visible... is great.
normally the only person that can add and control tokens on the map is the DM. I hope this helps.

probably not. FG is going to improve greatly with its next release, layering etc. the functionality of things like tokens will improve greatly, and I am working towards this, graphically. there will be an update that will support the new functionality asap. I wish I could offer more in terms of transparency, animation etc. all the best man.

What's the difference between the two .mod files? They're called small and big
Customer avatar
Gareth J March 17, 2019 3:50 pm UTC
the resolution of the tokens, the actual pixel dimensions of the tokens is the difference between these two sets, otherwise theyre identical.

Hi Gareth. I've put the .mod files in my Tokens-->Host directory and they aren't showing up. All of my other token .mods are showing up just fine. Has something changed where FG isn't recognizing them? I'm at a loss. Thanks for your help. BTW, I'm using Fantasy Grounds version 3.3.7.

I have a question. I purchased this and my players love it on Fantasy Grounds and as a DM I am loving them as well.

Question. As a player on FantasyGrounds, how can I use the tokens I have purchased or does the DM I am playing with have to purchase the product as well?
Customer avatar
Gareth J March 15, 2019 10:34 pm UTC
ahm, well naturally id prefer your DM to purchase their own. as with any product.

I got these today. They look beautiful. Thanks for making them.

I've just been testing them before tonight's game, and have a question about sizing. They all seem to fit into a 5' square. I can't find a way of resizing them without unlocking the token scale, which also makes the player tokens go haywire, and nor can I find a grippable scaling thing within the token. Am I doing something wrong?

Ignore - I've now discovered the Enhanced Images extension and have learned to layer :D.

How do you get these to work in Fantasy Grounds???
Customer avatar
Gareth J May 02, 2018 4:45 pm UTC
you add the mod, activate it when you load your campaign, and the tokens should come up as per all your character portraits and monster icons. for now, you can find and add layering mods, to keep them 'under' the character tokens, and control them as per any npc.

I have added the modules to my Fantasy Grounds Module folder, Loaded my campaign, activated the modules under Token, but they are still not showing up in the Tokens menu.

Excellent work for the price. The only suggestion I have to make sure each token has a solid center to make it easier to garb, rotate and scale the token. Delayed Blast Fireball works grate because it has a solid image in the center, but tokens like Circle of Power are very difficult to manipulate. Basically, each token needs a “handle” in the center for ease of use.
Customer avatar
Gareth J May 02, 2018 9:17 pm UTC
i know. however adding a handle as you call it might interfere with selecting characters, who may be the center of an effect. when FG integrates some sort of layer function, i will re release these with a workaround, and (in many cases) MUCH MUCH better art. i am currently limited by the nature of the technology.

Customer avatar
Gareth J May 02, 2018 9:18 pm UTC
im sorry that im at a loss as to what youve mannaged to do. however i believe that once yove downloaded this product, you are able to download it again, which would get you back the original mod.

Customer avatar
Adrian C December 09, 2017 7:22 pm UTC
I still love these but can you please add Watery Sphere (using Ice wall as a sub) - but still love these tokens
Customer avatar
Gareth J May 02, 2018 9:19 pm UTC
i will be adding the appropriate spells from SCAG, XAN etc when i have the time. depend on it. but ive only just got XAN, so its gona take me a little time to run thru all the spells etc.

Will these work on roll20 as well as Fantasy Grounds?
Customer avatar
Gareth J May 02, 2018 9:21 pm UTC
well. theyre png images, so i cant imagine why not. you can easily load them in like any other tokens. but the mod is for FG, and i cant imagine that roll20 uses the same coding.

I also would love to see a mod that allows the whole token to be selected - weirdly enough on FG running in Wine you can do that that - its only on windows you have to get the exact image

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
