Grammy's Country Apple Pie

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A kid-friendly adventure for heroes of all ages and experience levels!

When the ancient wizard Tyndareus develops a craving for a special treat from his childhood, he will stop at nothing to get his hands on the best apple pie in the whole world. He hires a group of adventurers to seek out the bakery that once produced the wonderful dessert – unfortunately for them, the bakery has long since been overrun by goblins. But all is not as it seems at Grammy’s Bakery, and Tyndareus isn’t the only one who’d do anything for those pies.

Includes a map and six pregenerated characters.

Played it yesterday with new players to introduce them to dnd and they loved it! The group was composed of the pre-written Cleric, Fighter and Bard characters.

Customized into a more personal adventure (Grammy's Cookies, instead of cake - which the merry group received at the end) to my nieces and nephews very first adventure (ages 5-9). They loved every minute!

Jennifer,
I recently bought and converted this adventure from the pdf to a Fantasy Grounds module and would love to talk to you about offering the conversion here in the DMs Guild. Would be happy to discuss how that could work for both of us. I originally did it for my own personnel use, but then realized all the work it took for a DM to do this and thought I could save some Dungeon Masters some time.

This was a very fun little adventure as a DM, and my party seemed to really enjoy it, especially our paladin, whose reason to adventure is seeking out a crepe recipe from his youth. He felt a kinship with the quest-giver on this.

Great bones, and plenty of room to customize and make this your own. (Personally, I redid the entire map for my group using Dungeon Alchemist.)

Thanks for a great couple sessions!

Hi Jennifer, I'm a fan of your amazing adventures, and I wonder if I could translate your work into Korean so Korean D&D players can also play your adventures easily.
I had so much fun playing with your scenarios. Especially this 'Grammy's Bakery' and 'Light through the Storm'! They are my favourites. I love your humour, and these stories were short but fascinating. They were great adventures introducing D&D to my friends, and more experienced players had so much fun!
Because of that, I have been wanting to share your work with Korean D&D players. This is not a free adventure, and the furthest thing I want is to give your work for free. I hope you get the right price for your work, but I don't know how to work this out...? If you allow it, I would like to discuss how to figure it out. If you would rather not want me to translate your works, that's totally cool and understandable!
Anyhow, I love your works, and I want to thank you for sharing your work with the world. :)

It's impossible to argue with the price and this adventure has very good bones, but it needs a bit more work from the DM to make it work at the table, IMO.

For starters, the adventure specifically says that this adventure can be completed without combat, which is great, but most of the NPCs aren't given names, including the three dryads the player characters will almost certainly interact with.

One of the treasures is a druid's spellbook, which contains a cantrip and some other spells. That's flavorful, but druids don't use spellbooks and simply turning the spellbook into a scroll would also give a third level spell to first level characters, which is kind of a lot.

Finally, it's not clear what happened to Grammy. The goblins are apparently there because they wanted her pies, but (spoiler) Grammy either was a powerful magic-user or otherwise had access to magic that could chill food and animate knives and rolling pins. So, either this band of nine or so goblins overcame...See more

Dragon + issue 21 indicated this is being give away before Dragon + issue 22 is released but it is listed at 0.99. I am looking to try a some sample adventures before investing in the starter set or core rule books to play with my son.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
