Blood Arcanist

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $3.00

Hidden within the veins of a rare few individuals, blood magic is a mighty power. Magic fueled by the lifeblood of its wielder is pure and raw, allowing for strange capabilities and incredibly powerful spells. Will you learn to wield this magic?

The Blood Arcanist is a new class with 3 archetype options. It fills a unique niche in the stable of D&D classes as a Constitution-based spellcasting class.

Choose between the Divine, Demonice, and Eldritch Bloodlines, each offering unique capabilities based on the source of blood magic.

This class also utilizes a unique casting mechanic - instead of expending spell slots to cast, Blood Arcanists expend their own hit points.

UPDATE: VERSION 1.2

- Added EE/SCAG disclaimer and symbols next to spells

- Added Quick Build section

- Added Eldritch Bloodline

- Added Mage Armor & Invisibility to spell list

- Added cover page

- Minor clarifications / typographical fixes

any thoughts on having this laid out as a subclass/archetype? it seems that this could easily be fit in with the an existing class's level step up abilities.

This class scales similarly to sorcerer, but the level 1 subclass bonus is super lack luster. The sorcerer subclasses get some sort of ability/passive or extra spells, and these spells are gained permanently not just added to the spell list. Have you considered adding something besides an expanded spell list to the subclasses for level 1?

I had not considered this previously, but this is interesting feedback. I will consider it when I make an update pass. :)

Hi Quadz08,

Can you give some rational as to how you decide what spells should /shouldn't be on the spell list?

For instance my player wants to add shield to the list, and I'm just wondering how you worked out what spells to exclude, whats your process?

Thank you for providing an amazing class and i look forward to your response

Most of the spell choices were based on the feel of the class. There are few things left out due to mechanical reasons (no healing spells, for example, as that's abusable). I think Shield gets a bit away from the intent of the class, but I don't think it's necessarily broken, either! I can't see a mechanical reason why you couldn't allow your player to take Shield, as long as you're okay with it. :)

(Sorry for the delayed response, by the way!)

It would be good if we could get an updated spell list after all these new releases since 2017. As well as a printer friendly option. :)

I love this class! I've been looking for something with the blood magic theme that has its own class and is actually decent, and you sir have done the job!
I have yet to playtest it, so I'll come back with more feedback if I find anything.

This looks very interesting: similar to sorcerers, but using HP to fuel attacks instead! I might have to throw an NPC using this at my players :)

I can't wait to use this class! Getting to use your blood for magic, the Demonic or Divine blood lines, such an interesting a unique class with great opportunities to build a complex character.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
