A Guide to Storm King's Thunder

Suggested Price $2.00

This guide has everything you need to prepare and run Storm King's Thunder. Included are extensive preparation and chapter-by-chapter notes alongside tons of page references and ideas.

I have also included a brief rundown of Cloud Giant's Bargain, the special side adventure given out at the PAX West theater events. The final section contains a giant outline that can give you an idea of how to take apart and reassemble this adventure.

Great resource for running Storm King's thunder, since it's a sprawling campaign with a huge setting. I especially like the detailed outline of how he ran the game at the end. Great resource for any DM

A really good resource, it speeds up the prep and makes it easy to remember while running it.
An error on page 48, the section that describe when the group encounter the yuan-ti, point 3:
The lair action for blue dragons are P.92 and not 89 (these are for the black dragon)

Great guide. I've already given my impressions in a review, so I'm going to use this to make a couple of suggestions for things that would make this guide even more useful as a revision, or to just integrate into future guides.

First, I'd like to see a short set of suggestions for magic items that would be particularly useful, would overcome pitfalls (like water breathing), or that might be avoided to prevent new problems.

The lists in the "Preparation" chapter are fantastic. I'd love to see them expanded on. A list of opportunities for props and handouts might be nice, but more than anything I'd like to see a list of all of the creatures encountered in the course of the adventures, along with the number range (or largest number) that you're likely to see, with a mark to indicate whether they're pre-placed or are from random encounters. Perhaps even the first time (chapter) they're encountered. Such a list would be invaluable in preparing for the campaign, as readers could...See more

I would say, out of all the products and guides I've bought from this website, this has been the single most useful one. 5/5.

This is a really great resource, however there may be some errors in it. For example, on the PDF page 13, it says that Zephyros, the Cloud Giant Wizard taxi, has a +1 to his Intelligence saves. That is not correct, as Zephyros explicitly has 18 Intelligence (SKT, pg 33).

Awesome resource! Very helpful. One thing I noticed, on p13 you mention that later on in your detailed summary you layout one way to introduce the NPCs. I can't seem to find it.

Great resource. Thanks for the time and effort you have put into it. One thing: it is not necessary for the characters to go to all 9 mounds - they just need to go to 'one or more of our lost relics, and bring them here as tribute' (Oracle, p. 130) The thing is, the characters don't know which relic goes with which giant king, so if they want to go to Ironslag, for example, they need to go to Morgur's Mound and/or Raven Rock. I think if my players said they preferred to go to one of the giant lairs, I'd tell them which relic/s to retrieve.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
