Fee, Fly, Foe, Fund: A Storm King's Thunder Adventure

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This adventure was written by former Wizards of the Coast Dungeons & Dragons staff member Greg Bilsland, producer on the fifth edition core rulebooks. The adventure was designed for use in D&D's 24-hour 2016 Extra Life game.

The adventure is for characters levels 6 - 8 and integrates with the story of Storm King's Thunder.

Description: Two tendays ago, cloud giants attacked the town of Nightstone, slaying many of its inhabitants including Lady Velrosa Nandar, a Waterdhavian noble and High Steward of the town. Word of Velrosa's deaths has reached Waterdeep, and the current Nandar patriarch, Talurth Nandar, is concerned his family's investment in the region will be compromised. He's now looking for adventurers to investigate the area, gather information, deal with any giant threats, and report back.

Of course, nothing ever goes as smoothly as planned.

Just an FYI to everyone, be prepared to make a map. It honestly makes no sense to me, it’s splotches of color and is not really usable for anyone who wants to run this on a VTT.

Planning to use this adventure as my intro to Storm King's Thunder, but I have to say one little thing I *really* like is the "Tavern Tales" table for introducing relationships between PCs. They are a lot of fun and I would immediately pay for a book full of them! *fingers crossed*

The map is... kinda terrible, to be honest and the key numbers are incorrect. There are six locations in the text, but only 5 marked on the map. Area 4 (on the map) is clearly not the stables since it has the cook fire and table which would be area 5 from the text. Area 5 (on the map) would appear to be area 6 from the text. One must assume the stables are the light grey area to the right of the south structure.

Are the blackish areas the parts that are cleared out of brush/trees and the green is all the underbrush? I might be nice if the map were fixed up just a bit so the details are more obvious. It doesn't require an expert cartographer... just someone who can make it a little cleaner.

Sorry to hear your frustrations. It's no excuse, but I made the map on short notice for Extra Life, so I just had to throw something together from creative commons.

Is this AL legal? I'd love to run it for AL.

I need to talk to the folks at WotC about it. I don't really know what required to make it AL legal.

No, this would not be legal for Adventurers League, nor could it be made so unless WotC changes its policy substantially. Only the hardcover adventures, those modules that have been commissioned by WotC specifically for the season's storyline, or those that are approved and commissioned for conventions under the Convention Created Content program (approval required months in advance) are legal for Adventurers League organized play.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
