DDAL05-03 Uninvited Guests (5e)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Shrine of the Axes has been restored and Raggnar Redtooth, who previously conspired with dragon cultists, is trying to restore his reputation in Parnast by sponsoring a feast.

There is just one thing he needs, meat for his feast. Game is supposed to be plentiful in the Weathercote Wood, but the townsfolk are all busy with their own work, and the minions of Bad Fruul are still out there causing trouble.

What can go wrong on a simple hunt?

A Two-Hour Adventure for 1st-4th Level Characters

Also included in the purchase of this adventure is a version specially converted for use with the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop software. The converted adventure features all the text and maps from the original adventure along with cross-linking of monsters, spells, magic items, equipment, and story elements, plus the powerful rules automation for which Fantasy Grounds is known.

Purchased by our local gaming store to be run in our AL program, and this was a blast to run! The group took a special liking to one of the NPCs (Wallace) and worked to make him a local hero. Was great to have so clearly playable pillars in an adventure!

This module can either be very fast, if certain decisions are made, or waaay longer and more face palm-y. Either way it's alot of fun for the DM and player alike.

This was a really fun module, I loved the options presented and how earlier actions had consequences.

5 star adventure. Easy to run, with lots of details for playing the NPC's just right. The different ways this module can go make it fun for the same player with different characters.

My players, The Heroes of Neverwinter, have just recently completed this wonderful Tier 1 adventure. Follow their exploits and get an idea of the true flavour of this great adventure set in the Savage Frontier, nestled in the foothills of the Greypeak Mountains in the sleepy village of Parnast. Yes, there are spoilers, but hey, your here considering buying the adventure...

Brilliant little adventure, I used this with some total D&D noobs and it was the perfect "gateway adventure". After this they wanted to join a regular campaign. Well written, interesting monsters that you don't see as often as others and something that non-D&D regulars recognised.

I ran this immediately after running the Black Road. The plot of this mission tied very well with their previous mission. This adventure to a good place to test the mechanics of the game and get players familiar with AL rules. Good adventure all around. Recommended for DMs and players alike. 5/5

This adventure provides your players with opportunities to engage in combat of varying degrees of difficulty while still providing opportunities for roleplay and a small amount of exploration.

Some of the fights in this module can be made to be engaging, but how engaging they are unfortunately largely depends on player choice, since one set of possible encounters is made up of creature types that act to make it far more interesting than others.

The roleplay encounters in this module are interesting, but I do not like that, as written, they have some dependency on alignment. The complications in the final encounter also could have been added a little better, and I had a little difficulty making them engaging for my players while they were locked into combat.

I really love it. I've played it so many times that I can run it without the module itself. Really enjoyable.

On the whole, I liked this module quite a bit. It's more RP and exploration heavy than the other AL mod's I've run thus far (which I admit is not many) so it was nice to just let the players run wild around town and grill everyone on their motivations, not to mention the great RP sequence with the sprite Prince and how it can have significant changes to the adventure's difficulty and resolution. My favorite part was the chaotic good Druid underselling the widower sylas on a potion he did not know the true price for, getting found out by the sprite prince, and had to RP and apology later and was super embarrassed both in and out of character.

The combat is there to help break up the rp and add the proper tension, but I'd not call it much more than serviceable. I ran it with the perfect party ratio that the mod was built for, and they didn't really break too much of a sweat, other than one party member dropping to zero right at the end. Might have just been my bad rolls however.

If I was...See more

This is pretty fun, roleplaying a nice fight and skills challenges. Ran it twice for two different groups and they liked it.

I love this adventure. It has a lot of interesting encounters that will get your players to figure out who your characters are. You will meet a widower, fea, and participate in a feast. Great fun, and a continuation of the Parnast story line.

Michael M. - While a nice suggestion for a non-DDAL adventures, random encounters are not included in any DDAL adventures because of the nature of organized play. Thanks for a great review, though.

I'm sorry ... but DDAL adventures have no random encounters????? Guess we don't play the same events then. Every event I played in Season 4 was littered with random encounter. Any encounter that does nothing to forward the plot of the module or is inserted for "filling" is a random encounter. Just ask as all the bears and twig blights that were killed last year. No random encounters ... best laugh I've had all day.

Sounds like there is some confusion about what a random encounter is. That's probably my fault because my definition comes from 1st edition. Based on your definition, you're right, there might be tons of random encounters. Traditionally, random encounters that appeared in adventures were rolled by the DM based on a table and the monster, if an encounter result did come up, was also random. This meant that the estimated time of the adventure, the number of monsters and therefore the XP rewards for one party might be wildly different than another. As a DDAL author, we are asked to design the encounters very specifically and deliberate, so random encounter tables do not exist in DDAL adventures. Some of the hardback adventures may have exceptions. By doing this we can deliver a more consistent experience for organized play, as well as offer adjustments to the designed encounter that allows the DM to adjust to stronger or weaker parties. Sorry for the confusion in my original comments.

Again, I'm sorry Robert, but if you put a random encounter in a fancy new dress and call it Shirley, it is still a random encounter. By your definition, it could be called a "filler" encounter which is just as bad. Just because your encounter doesn't have a dice-rolling chart associated with it doesn't mean it isn't a cop-out when it comes to writing adventure modules. Padding an adventure with them to "fill" XP or word count is just plain awful. The only reason most AL players don't realize this is they have awesome DMs that either make them exciting or cut them entirely. If they would actually read the adventures they may not be as impressed.

DDAL 04-05 The Seer is the perfect example of this, among many.

The adventure contains, in order – a senseless random encounter, a role playing encounter, another role-playing encounter with a bit of investigation, another senseless random encounter, and a final fight. So, 25% of this adventure is nothing more than a filler,...See more

I have a question, was it intentional to use two of the names of prominent Planeswalkers for the NPCs in this and DDAL 05-02? (Chandra and Ellspeth)

Scratch that, I think the security set on it messed with my Adobe version. Tried it on another computer and it worked fine.

Glad to hear you solved it yourself! But FYI, any technical questions should be addressed to the DMs Guild directly, through the red "Contact Us" at the very bottom left of the page. This discussion only notifies the publisher and/or author, and while they can help with content, they can't usually offer much help on the technical side of things.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
