Caravans are having a difficult time getting through to Parnast via the Black Road.

Organized attacks by orcs and other monstrous humanoids working in concert with one another have folks baffled. Little do they know that an unusually intelligent hill giant, going by the name of Bad Fruul is to blame.

SEER has sent her emissary Hsing, to task your group to accompany a caravan with a very special cargo destined for the Shrine of Axes in Parnast, and to figure out who is responsible.

This adventure is great for the beginners. It shows how d&d is not just rolling dices and hitting monsters.

An excellent adventure. As a first time DM, this was a great adventure to run and everything I needed was there in front of me! It's a great mix of encounters with plenty of opportunity to expand the story!

An excellent adventure for beginning players and DMs. Probably one of the best modules written for AL.

Just ran this module today. Straight forward that transitions into the Parnast story arch. Really enjoyed it.

One of my favorite tier 1 game, with some opportunity (if they want) for RP interaction with NPC enemies, but more importantly a great opportunity for creative problem solving.

Ran this adventure last nigh with a mix of levels 2 and 3 characters (And one level 1). Beyond the fact that there seem to be a few misprints in the module, it's a fun one to run. Rated as a two hour adventure, we took our time and completed it in three and a half!

It's fun with a nice mix of combat encounters and an environmental challenge in the middle that sets up Storm King's Thunder perfectly.

One of the better Tier 1 modules IMO.

This is the adventure I carry in my backpack just in case I ever need to run a 2-hour module on short notice. It's easy to run and fun to play.

I ran this adventure with a good mixture of levels but I did have 3 brand new AL players at 1st level. The choices in this adventure caused the group to roleplay more than many of my groups and they even changed their mind once or twice (including one player persuading all the others to pay the toll). This setup a very challenging final battle for the low level characters but it caused them to work together, with the protection fighter saving many lives by imposing disadvantage. This adventure overall caused my players to think outside the box both in combat and out of combat. 10/10

Encounter D2 Fight the Hobgoblins suggests for a weak party to: "remove hobgoblins, add a goblin." Literally, that suggests removing all of the hobgoblins, but I was hoping for clarification as that seems like too much of a reduction. I suspect that it's a typo and should say either "remove a hobgoblin" or "remove two hobgoblins". Thanks!

This is the best intro module to 5e for Tier 1 hands down. Its fast. Its easy. There's lots going on here and plenty of roleplay opportunities. It adds a setting flavor that is different from typically fantasy and introduces SKT perfectly. You could basically write a complete campaign around this single module.

I just ran this fun little adventure for a group of four level 3 characters. It started as just a one-shot for a couple players that I play with while our DM is too busy to play. I got a player from the SKT game I DM plus another and we had a fun little romp through the desert. I love how it sets up the rest of the Parnast adventures, and the group says they want to keep playing! It was a very well written module with alternate paths depending on what the players did. I hope to see more from these authors.

Thank you very much! We hope to be asked to write more for AL. Definitely check out our ELMWOOD adventures. Just do a search on that term. You'll find them.

A definite favourite. I have run this one a number of times after playing it with a solid DM. The different parts of the mod make it really interesting, not just combat focused but other challenges to complete and gives a good opportunity for roleplaying.

I really enjoyed this title as it was the first adventure I played of D&D. It was easy to follow, challenging, and fun! As I am now Dm-ing it will be a great choice to use for my Tier 1's!

A good little adventure. Straight forward for low level characters and some good foreshadowing for those who continue the story arc. I've ran it several time and always have fun.

My PDF for this adventure doesn't have the numbers for determining party strength (APL less than, equivalent, greater than) on page 3 - anyone have these? I'm only looking for the numbers for 5 characters. Thanks!

This adventure is optimized for a party of five
SECOND-level characters. To figure out whether you
need to adjust the adventure, do the following:
 Add up the total levels of all the characters.
 Divide the total by the number of characters.
 Round fractions of .5 or greater up; round
fractions of less than .5 down.
You’ve now determined the average party level
(APL) for the adventure. To figure out the party
strength for the adventure, consult the following
table.
Determining Party Strength
Party Composition Party Strength
3-4 characters, APL less than Very weak
3-4 characters, APL equivalent Weak
3-4 characters, APL greater than Average
5 characters, APL less than Weak
5 characters, APL equivalent Average
5 characters, APL greater than Strong
6-7 characters, APL less than Average
6-7 characters, APL equivalent Strong
6-7 characters, APL greater than Very strong

I'm having the same issue. It seems like the table is missing numbers for the APL.

This was a very straightforward low-level adventure. The party had a lot of Zhentarim members, so they we're immediately hooked into the mission. Recommend to DMs and players alike. 5/5

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
