Cormyr Region Maps: West-Central Cormyr

This is a single hand-drawn map created for campaigns set in and around the Kingdom of Cormyr in the Forgotten Realms, which for those unaware of the Kingdom, it is just to the east of the Sword Coast. This map specifically covers the western part of central Cormyr, between Eveningstar and Suzail, and between Waymoot and Hilp. It's suitable for anyone campaigning in the Cormyr region, and is designed to be the sort of map characters might actually see in the world.

This map exists thanks to the patronage of Jeremy Grenemyer, a loremaster on the subject of Cormyr, who has a mini-campaign setting for Cormyr available here on the DM's Guild, called Cormyr - Year of the Ageless One. Portions of this product will make an appearance in his work.

It is based on both Mike Schley's invaluable map of Cormyr (which is available for purchase on his website), as well as maps and lore from the 2nd Edition product "Volo's Guide to Cormyr". I'm not a professional artist, and I used techniques from Jared Blando's "How to Draw Fantasy Art and RPG Maps" to create the map, which I highly recommend. This is my third attempt at map-making, and I also have maps of the region around Triboar and Waterdeep available here on the DM's Guild.

Unlike previous maps, this was created at a much higher resolution. It was drawn on A3 paper in pencil, gone over in ink, and scanned at 600 dpi. The work is of simply higher quality than my previous efforts. Because of this, it is possible to zoom much further in on different areas of the map.

This is a single map of the region, but this product contains 16 versions of that map, to allow for different uses. There are 4 pdfs, each containing 4 maps. Each pdf has a DM's version of the map with all locations, one map being plain, and the other having a 6 mile hex. The other two maps in each pdf are player's maps, one being plain, and the other having a 6 mile hex.

The 4 pdfs, each containing the above mentioned 4 variations on the map, are as follows:

  • a canon version of the map, with a colour parchment background
  • a canon version of the map in black and white
  • an altered version of the map, with colour parchment background, with 2 extra locations from Jeremy Grenemyer, as well as the addition of non-canon names to an unnamed river and an unnamed trail
  • an altered version of the map as described immediately above, in black and white

All maps are of exactly the same region. Close attention has been paid to remaining true to the source material, and distances are as accurate as I could make them taking into account inconsistencies between different canon maps.

Cormyr in the Year of the Ageless One

I hope people find this map helpful to their campaigns! Cormyr is an area worthy of much attention, and continues to inspire through past era products such as "Volo's Guide to Cormyr", and Erin M Evans' novel "Fire in the Blood", as well as the novels of Ed Greenwood.

I also have maps of the Waterdeep and Triboar regions, and close-up map of the Ardeep forest, available here on the DM's Guild:

Ongoing patronage is appreciated, as if this map gets enough love, I will be tempted to continue working on further maps for the region. Thanks!

It was a pleasure observing Terrlen as he worked on this map. Terrlen's work is top-notch and his attention to detail is greater than mine.

You know you're working with the best when they point out things about the Forgotten Realms that you yourself didn't know.

You will be well-served by this map of West-Central Cormyr.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
