Rules for player-controlled fiefdoms!


In this accessory there are the rules required for the DM to introduce the corner-stone of feudal domains: Manors.
A manor is the basic feudal unit, able to support a knight and his retinue. The lord (or lords) of the manor profit from the effort of their serfs and in exchange for the privilege swear featly to a higher noble.

This accessory contains rules for governing such a fiefdom including the income from the work of the serfs and taxes on the gentry, expenses to support the estate and support the liege the lord of the manor owes allegiance to, feudal actions, random events and more.
Three ready-to-use manor estate descriptions for your campaign are in the appendix, with a few details on the locals. Examples range from the common manor overlooking 500 peasants working for a knight, to an oligarchic estate for a small group of lords (perfect for a PC group), to a benefice owned by the state religion.

The first step in an ambitious product chain about ruling fiefdoms. Towns, baronies and even bigger dominions will be added in the future

I plan to have a follow up, but don't expect it within 2017. Unfortunately I don't have much time and the rules I use for my campaign for baronies (the next instalment) are too complicated for the casual reader.
I -do- have rules for baronies all the way up to Empires. I just have to find a way to slim them down to a manageable set without sacrificing the elements that make them dear to me.

I don't plan to add more to this particular product, but I would eventually write one about baronies once I manage to simplify my custom-rules enough for general consumption. A couple minor adventures I have on the works though, will also feature horsemen and horse archers.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
