First the bandits attacked then the Roc carried away the guide.  Since then you have blindly followed the camels hoping that their instincts would lead you to water or help of some kind.  You and your friends are lost in a sea of sand.  Plodding along in the shadow of the camels and doing your best to stay alert.  Ahead the heat shimmers take shape.  This time it is a castle.  Blinking away the dryness in your eyes you realize that the tower is not a mirage but it is broken.

An adventure for 5th-8th level characters

Question for the author - do you do anything to help guide the party along to do the levels of the Keep itself before descending into the caverns? Was anything playtested? I have an extra campaign-oriented encounter I'm adding in to this module (the party is on their way to the Iron Keep unbeknownst to them) and would prefer they did not go down the stairs from the get go. I'm thinking about adding some kind of locked door or something that would require them to collect items/clues from the Keep first. Before I go creating stuff, wanted to check on possible existing solutions first.

Jeff,
I did run a playtest but the group was the type that cleared a level before charging off to another, afraid they might be attacked by something they left behind. As to guiding them to the lower levels, I do some RP stuff to get them in the direction but I did not have clues in the playtest. Though its a good idea. I have a group who will be headed there later this year or first of next year, depending on the campaign and like you I am adjusting the adventure to fit the overall story of the campaign.

I attempt to write these so they are open and easy to fit into any setting or event. I come from an old school style of DM'ing and often adjust things on the fly during my games.

Thanks. As I guessed, the party wanted to go down first. I anticipated this and had added in a trap door they had to get through (both down staircases led to this one door). Took two keys which were hidden on the 2nd and 3rd level. Party had a lot of fun running this.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
