Waterdeep Region Maps

Suggested Price $1.00

This map contains both Nighstone and Goldenfields, both used in Storm King's Thunder!

This is a map I hand-drew for campaigns set in and around Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realms. It's suitable for anyone campaigning in the Waterdeep region, and may be especially helpful to anyone running the Tyranny of Dragons, Elemental Evil, or Storm King's Thunder adventure paths (once the latter is released). It's designed to be the sort of map characters might actually see in the world.

It is based on both Mike Schley's excellent map in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (available for purchase on his website), and Eric L. Boyd's web supplement to the 3rd edition book City of Splendors: Waterdeep (which is available for free online). I'm not a professional artist, and I used techniques from Jared Blando's "How to Draw Fantasy Art and RPG Maps" to create the map, which I highly recommend.

There are 3 pdfs included: a map stained with coffee to look like parchment, a map with a parchment texture backing, and a black and white version.

Included in each pdf is multiple versions of the same map:

  • a player's map of the region
  • a player's map with a 6 mile hex
  • a DM's map of the region including many extra sites
  • a DM's map of the region including many extra sites, with a 6 mile hex
  • The above 4 maps again, without the settlement of Nightstone included.
All maps are of exactly the same region. Close attention has been paid to remaining true to the source material, and distances are as accurate as I could make them taking into account inconsistencies between different canon maps. As a disclaimer, a photo of the hand-drawn player's map is available for free on DeviantArt.

For those interested, I also have Triboar, Ardeep Forest, and Cormyr region maps also available on DM's Guild, available as "Pay What You Want".

Hope people find this helpful to their campaigns!

Hi Kanzen.

Great job on the Waterdeep maps.

I went ahead and dropped you a line through Deviantart. Looking forward to your reply.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
