I just picked up this adventure and I'm looking forward to running it for some friends who are very new to D&D. I am also a very new DM (usually play Pathfinder), so this may be a bit of a noob question, but I noticed there were no enemy stat blocks for the encounters listed in this module. Is this common for D&D content like this? Where is the best place to go to find/create the stats for the combats? Thank you!

The monster stats can be found in the monster manual (best place), the free online basic rules, or the SRD (sorry, can't provide links as the system filters them out).

Gonna run this on Saturday as part of a live stream game for AlignmentmayVary, and really excited! I've wanted to run it for some time. One thing: that map description of the cottage seems rather tiny, but I'm guessing that's supposed to be the case because a gnome lives there? I just am not sure how 8 swarms of rats and 5 worgs are going to fit on that. 5 worgs LITERALLY can't fit in the space described.

(If anyone is wondering why, it's because Worgs are large creatures)

You are quite right and it was an oversight on my part. I recommend doubling the size of the cottage

Sorry to bother, I am new to all of this. Is there not a map for King of the Cats? I just purchased the volume 1 collection and the other modules for level 1 characters seem to have maps on the last page, not so for this one. Does this story use another story's map, maybe? Thanks for any help!

Hi Rebecca,

This adventure does not really need a map. Nevertheless, I did have a map of Neverwinter made up, just for broad reference. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C67l54dXAAA-ZcI?format=jpg&name=medium

kind regards,

I can't leave a proper review/rating on this as I got it as part of the collection, but... this module is so good. I've been itching to run it since the moment I read it and now that I am it's living up to every moment of anticipation. I'm adapted it very slightly to fit into my Dragon Heist campaign and my players are having a blast with it - and so am I. It's a wonderfully written adventure and a great tone shift. I am absolutely going to keep it in my back pocket for future campaigns - I think it'd be a great way to kick off a campaign, in fact.

I just need to tell the creator of this wonderful adventure what my players have done to me with your story.

They fell in LOVE with the Ugliest Boy (I bellow out his stories and tales and have a pretty fantastic voice for him, I will admit) and they have now persuaded to employed him at 10GP a day to stay in their group, and are semi-keeping him hostage. They are also now spending money to send him to bard college, and he's become a staple in their every day lives. There was a full blown heist game based around the Clockwork Carnival and getting back there to acquire him.

My artificer stole the Gorilla Head and is keeping it in her work shed. I don't know why. I'm afraid to ask.

It has literally become a storyline, and I had to create a full on character sheet for ugliest boy, who is now off to college. I hope that this pleases you. Sincerely, my D&D Crew.

Can't add a proper review here as I got "King of the Cats" as part of "The Complete Adventures of M.T. Black" (which you should immediately buy). I ran this last night as the first adventure of a new campaign with 5 1st-level PCs. Everybody had fun - the players particularly enjoyed the Congress of Cats and the very imaginative Clockwork Carnival. Bombalina proved to be a surprise hit as an NPC and may return in future adventures.

A few notes for DMs:

- The playing time for this one can vary a LOT based on which paths of the investigation the party opts to pursue. We finished in less than 2.5 hours, and that was with the inclusion of one of the optional encounters (destitute former mentor). My players made choices that led them on a very direct path to the resolution, and I think it is quite possible that other groups would do the same. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the DM should probably be aware that this can happen, and be prepared to add padding if there is...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
