You have served an evil deity for years. Doing so has allowed you to achieve abilities that make you seem god-like amongst the common folk. Attaining the level of power you now hold has not been easy. You have sacrificed much: lives, morals, contentment, and more. It has all been worth it. The time has come for you to leave this world and take your place among the pantheon of Faerûn. No longer will you be a god among men. Now, you will be a god among gods.

Most campaigns never reach level 20. Descent to Ascension is a one-shot adventure designed to give you a chance to try 20th-level play. It is not designed to be played as part of an ongoing campaign. The adventure takes place toward the end of the Sundering and is designed for a party of five 20th-level evil adventurers. 

This adventure includes:

  • A 10-page color adventure with an easy-to-follow encounter format
  • Printable color battle maps for all encounters in PDF format
  • Color battle maps in JPG format for use with virtual tabletop software
  • Map use license: All maps in this product may be used in other DMs Guild products

Author’s Note

Creating and playing a 20th level character can be a daunting task. If your players aren’t up for the challenge of rolling up a level 20 character, try visiting digitaldungeonmaster.com for a vast selection of pregenerated characters of all levels.

This adventure sounds great, I'm going to run it with my friends. I was wondering though, for what type of lvl20 characters is the adventure balanced? Just with normal gear or including magic items? And what is the best way to possibly downscale it to 4 20th lvl characters?

Feats and magic items can increase the power of even 20th level characters. Since this just a 1-shot, my suggestion would be to limit characters to a couple of magic items each. If you are going to have only four players, allow them a few more magic items to help up their power level.

Really enjoyed running this for my small group! Only issue I had was I really wanted to tpk them with the tarrasque, but the wizard threw up an illusory dragon between the party and the tarrasque, and then there was no room for the tarrasque to run past it so it eventually it died. Assuming we ran that right, might be good to make that last room a little wider. Loved the fact it was short enough for a night, had level 20 characters, and that you put a twist on it with evil characters.

In the synopsis, you have a typo where you spell "angels" as "angles" in the description for B1. This was seen in the Full-Size Preview version.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
