The Favoured Soul

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Orcs of Grummush howled in triumph, the small elven village was all but within their grasp. Yet the day was not yet theirs as a lone figure took the field before them. The radiant symbol of Corillian Larathian adorned their armour, yet despite their vestments they were no cleric. A silver light flew from their longsword as they drew it, yet despite the arms they wielded they were no paladin. The orcs were shaken for the figure had white feathered wings that glowed with light of a new dawn, yet despite the divine power they controlled they were no Celestial. The orcs faced a Favoured Soul of Corillian Larathian and he would bring his gods wrath on those who would desecrate his followers.

Like the clerics of the world, the favoured soul acts as both warriors and healers of their faith, however unlike paladins and clerics a favoured soul does not directly report to the church of their faith and operate outside their churches hierarchy. The very nature of the favoured soul is to wonder the world and further the will of their god and as such is a life of isolation, though some favoured souls have been known to join bands of adventurers or other likewise minded individuals as a means of completing their gods bidding.

Impressive work. Far more extensive than I expected when I purchased it. I'll study this in more detail before I'll post a review, but I wanted to share some first observations. Most, if not all of the ways to spend Divine Points have not listed if it can be done as an action, a bonus action, a reaction or a free action. Also the Spells Known column isn't listed. This should probably be the same progression as that of the sorcerer, especially given the spells that you learn from choosing a deity.
But all in all, I would love to play this class over a Cleric, even with the Divine Points being the limiting factor on what you can do.

This maybe a dumb question, but where can I find the description for the shadow bolt spell?

It's nearing the end of August. I don't want to be pushy, especially since I've created content in a similar manner and know it's never pleasant to be rushed but, was there a delay? Or is my idea of mid-august too literal versus yours? Again, your stuff, I don't want you to rush it, just curious given the date.

Hi Titan,

Apologies for the delay with this, my first fantasy novel was due to be published this month and some issues with the formatting have caused delays.

The update is nearly done, I'll be releasing an updated version with some of the revised paths included to test the power levels and get some feedback for the new build shortly.

Just a small update for people who have downloaded the Favoured Soul, I've fixed a lot of the errors on the original release and I will be looking to release version 2.0 shortly.

and just a heads up for you, the next release will come with 20 paths for the favoured soul, around 80 new spells in additional spells to version 1.0, at least 1 new domain for clerics and alternative paths that can be used with Rangers and Druids and as requested new spell lists for Clerics, Paladins and potentially Warlocks .

Going to be a monster of a release :)

Hi Titan W,

Thanks for the below.

I have a major expansion planned for the class but wanted to only ship with 2 sample paths hence your understandable complaint, this was mainly due to the amount of time that would need to be invested and not knowing how the class would be received.

Some great feedback though and I'll get on version 1.1 that will fix most of the below asap

Then allow me to post the errors I found with it. I'm more then willing to help and I'm already excited for the next revision!

-'Favoured' is used several times throughout the PDF. It should be spelled 'Favored'.
-Under tool proficiencies, it lists Holy Symbols as tools.
-In starting equipment, it lists the following: "(a) a mace or (b) a weapon that matches your deities
favoured weapon". Not all deities necessarily have a favored weapon. I would consider revising this if possible to a martial or simple weapon.
-In starting equipment, it allows chainmail to be given if proficient, yet the only things that would allow a level 1 character to be proficient in chainmail upon choosing this class would be a variant human with the feat 'Heavily Armored' (to my current knowledge). While I see the thematic logic to this choice, it makes no sense looking at the features. Perhaps consider adding another archetype, or editing one of the archetypes to add heavy armor proficiency....See more

Hi,

I'm just reviewing the above and i just wanted to clarify the below with you in case i'm misunderstanding you.

1, The Favored Soul table does not list the number of Divine Points you can have maximum per level. I would assume it to be equal to your Favored Soul level (based on Divine Fire's description), much like with sorcery points.

This already appears on the table next to the proficiency bonus.

2, Circle of Pain seems under-powered if Divine points maximum is equal to your total Favored Soul level. I find a couple points of damage to all creatures within 10ft of you for one turn to be weak compared to a lot of spells that would be available to other classes, even at level one.

they can increase the amount of healing or damage and duration by 1 so 10 points would deal 10 points per turn for 10 turns not just 1 turn.

I didn't see the number if spells known, so for that I apologize. And I still find circle of pain weak, as you can only reach 10 damage in 10 rounds at level 10, a level by which 10 damage isn't much.

no at level 10 you could spend 10 points and deal 10 damage a round for 10 rounds so that's 100 damage to everyone within 10 feet

Thank you for your feedback Titan.W, this was posted as PWYW as a tester for other people to playtest and give us their opinions. We have plans to greatly expand this class so before we post the next revision I would like to know what balancing issues people have found with the spells etc so we can review them further.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
