This is a system aimed to help DM's with awarding Milestone XP for Curse of Strahd. It will be updated as I play and make modificiations. Please be aware that this will, obviously, have spoilers

Note: the PDF preview is all screwed up (probably because there are two files). Go ahead and grab it for free. If you like it enough to want to donate, grab it again and toss me a couple quarters.

Version 1.1: After some testing, I made a few minor modifications to early experience milestones.

When would you consider an area "explored"? When they first arrive there? When they go to a second location in that area? A third? When they leave?

What would you consider the small party guidelines to be perfect for a party of 4?

I also don't know if the House of Death needs to made easier?

Wow, sorry I missed this. Its been a while since I've been on DM's Guild.
1. Ya, 3 or 4 would be small for the purposes of that table. 5 or 6 would be big.
2. Whatever you do, don't make it easier. If the game is too easy, its boring. Its more about adjusting the consequences for failure. If they wipe, they could arrive in Barovia unconscious with some horrible curse that serves as a complication for the rest of the campaign (maybe drawing them into one of the narratives there). Its best to find ways to have the party fail forward. So, they can suffer minor campaign failures when they "die" rather than just die. When character death does happen, I like to limit it to one PC and I typically ask the player how he sacrifices himself to allow the others to escape. Either way, you should have this stuff prepared. Always plan on what happens if they don't succeed and have some kind of interesting plan b happen. This way, you can make the game very challenging without fear of wiping the party. This...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
