The Throne of Bone - Adventure

ADD TO WISHLIST >

"I absolutely loved the adventure and how it was set up."

"The balance between combat and non-combat encounters is excellent."

It all begins with a simple request (doesn’t it always?) from an old farmer.  The request – protect his cattle herd from vicious wolves. Simple enough for the brave adventurers, right?  But it doesn’t stay that way.  Not at all.  Soon, the adventuring party will find themselves in the thick of it as they solve puzzles, avoid traps, fight for their lives, and endure witty taunting.  And in the end, they discover an artifact that may, or may not, be useful to them.

This is a PDF of the adventure. If you are looking for the Fantasy Grounds VTT - click here.

This adventure includes a cursed shield, a new undead creature, and a new artifact.  Total party experience earned is approximately 14,500.

A 6+ hour adventure for 6th-8th level characters.  Recommended adjustments for higher level characters are included.

The .mod file does not seem to open in FGU.

Any plans to fix this?

Jeff - Still no go. When looking at the modules list before loading it, it's listed but has no icon. After clicking "Load" it doesn't show up in the Library.

Hi! I just tried with the new file named "902874-902874-902874-jcs_Throne_of_Bone_10_30_20.mod" and it worked. I see the thumbnail and the images open correctly. Make sure your "fantasy groundsmodules" folder does not have the older version. The new file is also smaller 4,051KB

Edit: If you keep FGU running while doing that you can do /reload in the chat and then should unload all previous versions of the module.

Working for me now. I think I had an ol' copy in there, too.

Hey man,

So I've run two of your Other adventures (midnight Violet and Dragons Breath) and busy running Tasha's Kiss. Bought this purely cause it's you.

One thing I'm trying to wrap my head around, how would you suggest running this for lower levels as I would find getting lvl 6's to care about helping a farmer a bit hard and currently got a new table of level 2's that I love throwing this in with their Caravan travels.

Hi Jeff. Love the adventure. I ran my kids through it a couple of months ago and I am planning to run my regular group through it this weekend. I've noticed that my version of the pdf does not have the battle stat tracker that is so highly praised in the reviews. Is it a separate document?

Is the Battle Stat Tracker still in the files of this Adventure? I was just looking and didn't see it after downloading the adventure, pretty interested to check it out. Thx!

Any recommendations on running this in 3-4 hrs? That's usually how long I have for my sessions and I was wondering if there are parts that could be shortened or avoided.

Great adventure! I can't wait to play this. I have a party of 3 players all at level 6. What would you recommend as far as encounters are concerned? The wolves and skeletons in particular.

Hi!
I have a friend coming from England and me and my friends want to play with her! I really like this adventure and I will definitely use it, but I want to make it a bit longer. We want to play for 10-12 hours;) So is there one of your other adventures that i could combine with this one?

Good day Jeff! Just a quite question for you, for the rooms that do allow a rest in this dungeon did you intend to only have short rests to be allowed, or long rests as well? Thank you!

This is great, but it's a little strange there was no player's map of the 3rd floor provided.

Hey, Jeff! I have several of your adventures and love them. I play everything on fantasy grounds. I'm running Throne of Bone this weekend and can't wait. I think I have the most recent mod and wanted to give you some feedback on the module (not the pdf). Some of the items I point out might be intentional, I'm not sure.

The Wolf Den - The map is already gridded and the wolves are already put on the map and circled. For a VTT, it would be better to drop the npc's on the map in an encounter but not draw them on the map. I also noted that the encounter itself is not placed on the map, but rather the DM must do that. I ended up taking off the grid myself and removing the drawn in wolves using GIMP.

1.07 - The Body - It would be nice if the key (or piece of key) was included in the parcel but probably not a huge issue.

2.09 - The Stairwell - The description of the room reads that there are three skeletons that will form out of the bones as the door is opened. The encounter...See more

Just to close this out, I wanted to let everyone know that I worked with Jeff and all of the items/issues I pointed out in my comment above (along with a few more) have now been fixed in the update Jeff recently put out on 9/18.

I am about to run this adventure for a group of 5 at the end of June. As I was going through the PDF and got to the maps section, I saw that all the maps already had the NPC's marked out for the DM. Are there maps available that I can print out and use for the adventure if I don't want my PC's to know where the monsters are as they enter each area? (basically PC version of maps instead of the DM version of the map)

My group and I have thoroughly enjoyed this module. The puzzles weren't difficult, but provided a different sort of challenge from the usual hack-n-slash. There is still plenty of hack-n-slash, never fear. And it's a good story, with its own twists. If you DM this one, have fun with the dwarf door.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
