DM’s Kit: DEFENDERS of the DESSARIN VALLEY

This 50-page toolbox gives Dungeon Masters who are running Princes of the Apocalypse an array of resources that can help organize your presentation and add depth to the table experience.

This DM’s Kit includes:

Suggestions on displaying photographs of badlands to help players recognize the terrain of the Dessarin Valley.

Four DM handouts that can be used to seed your campaign with clues about the four elemental prophets and their backgrounds.

A chart and map that helps DMs keep track of factions and their respective contacts operating in the Dessarin Valley.

Seven PC handouts to help players grasp their adventure hooks.

Four DM screen overhangs to organize DM information about Red Larch and the Dessarin Valley. A map of Red Larch in abstract to keep locations organized.

Floor plans for the Allfaiths Shrine, The Swinging Sword, Helm at Highsun, Mother Yalantha’s and a blank for DMs to map out other town locations.

30 fleshed-out encounters that enhance and make many of the the random encounter charts in the books more story-focused.

An index of all the illustrations in the adventure, so DM’s can quickly find and show pictures of what the player characters are experiencing.

A Campaign Framework Sorcery and Six-Guns, how to layer a fantasy western motif — the Gilded Age of the Forgotten Realms — over the adventure.

Two suggested “soundtracks,” for the adventure, so the DM can play sound cues or background music depending on the situation, and advice for compiling your own campaign music.

Two adventure outlines for additional adventures for groups that complete Princes of the Apocalypse.

I've just started running a few friends through PotA and found your guide really helpful.
The hook handouts in particular are great.
I'm stuck on the old dwarven map - what are the runes? The runic alphabet doesn't seem to correspond to anything I could find in a google quest.
A quick hint on where to get a translation would be appreciated, as one of the players has this hook in their character background
Thanks for the great content!

Consult the Dwarvish Script alphabet on page 122 of the Player's Handbook.

Hi Troy

Thanks for the super rapid response!

Don't I feel foolish? I was looking up Tolkein and LotR references, various true-type fonts that can be downloaded and a host of similar stuff. The actual book sitting on the desk next to me? Never occurred to me! Face, meet Palm.

Thanks again.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
