"Fantastic starter game for young and old players alike"

"This was a wonderful first adventure"

"All I can say is thank you for the fun our group had last night with this!"

Enter the world of Dungeons & Dragons without spending a penny!

This first-level adventure is designed to work with the free basic rules offered by Wizards of the Coast. You and your friends can explore, battle and roleplay without having to buy anything other than snacks, drinks and maybe some pizza for the DM!

Delve your very first dungeon beneath the Wizard's Tower Brewery

The party is sent to deal with a problem that should be instantly familiar to all rookie adventurers - exterminating giant rats that have taken up residence in a beer cellar.
However, if they are to achieve their goal our heroes are going to have to get their first taste of a real dungeon as they explore the ruins of an ancient Wizard’s Tower.

Comes with free resource pack

Want to step your game up to the next level? This download comes with a free resource pack, including:

  • Printer-friendly copy of the adventure
  • Player handout to help with puzzles
  • Large copy of the dungeon map

Continue the path to adventure!

Follow up on the fun with two more Basic Rules Adventures - Horror at Havel's Cross and The Hound of Cabell's Tomb.

POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING: I’ll say as little as I can.

I ran this for a group of completely new players as a pretty new DM and it was for the most part excellent.

The only issue was with the puzzle: the players got onto the right track with the clues, but got confused - partly by the placement of the dead rat, which seemed to contradict it by implying that one of the safe spots was unsafe.

After lots of experimentation and taking damage they eventually got it by looking for tracks, which I drew on the map, but realised didn’t make any sense. In the end I decided that the rat ran air, earth, earth and got pushed onto the river by the blade, but that seems a bit of a stretch.

Maybe I just ran this wrong? Based on the placement of the rat I assumed that the blade swung between the sections so hit you when you step between sections? But this doesn’t really make sense, and isn’t really what the text says.

Also should I have allowed the players...See more

Very enjoyable romp for the 7 players who were new to 5e and for me as the experienced DM tryoing to teach them! Nice touches for all three pillars of play. I thought the Inferno Spider was going to wipe out the squishy wizard in the group with its fire web, but with a little teamwork all the PCs came through just fine. Thank you!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
