Arcane Prestige Paths

Prestige Paths

Have you ever felt like you needed an extra option to really stand out from your companions, but didn't really wanna miss out of the great abilities of your chosen class and archetype? Here is an attempt at combining the specialization of prestige classes from older editions with the well-balanced and generally entertaining archetypes of 5th edition D&D.

What is a prestige path?

Prestige paths are what separate the common from the extraordinary and the generalists from the specialists. Too narrow a path to be an archetype, and not quite simple enough to be just a single feat, a prestige path usually consists of three separate feats. In combination, these function as the prestige classes of old, but you use your Ability Score Increases to progress in the prestige class, instead of multiclassing.

The feats that make up a prestige paths function much like ordinary feats, except that they often carry strict requirements, and they must be taken in order. As an example, this means that in order to take the Enhance Arrow feat as an Arcane Archer, you must first have the Imbue Arrow feat, and so on. Because of the steep requirements, prestige feats often end up slightly more powerful than ordinary feats. Additionally, it will often be up to your DM whether or not you match the special requirement, which can include anything from special training to participation in a particular event.

What is in this document?

This document contain three arcane prestige paths - the Arcane Archer, the Archmage and the Red Wizard. The arcane archer combines spellcasting and archery to deathly effect. The archmage is the pinnacle of arcane prowess, powerful and knowledgable. The red wizard is a specialist wizard of a single school, as well as an authority on all things undead.

Very well done. These have been done with care and give both a nice flavor and mechanical benefits while keeping within the 5E core philosophy and arch-types. I will be looking for more from this author. Note, discussion on this offering can be [...]

This is a nice approach to prestige classes. In a lot of ways this is better than a prestige class, becuase you continue along your chosen path, and the feats represent adiditonal training or mastery. This really works for me, and I have a feeling [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
