Mind Over Matter - The Mystic Class

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $0.99

In this product, the playtest version of the Mystic (AKA the Psion) is extrapolated out to a full 20-level class progression, including each of the two published Mystic Orders as well as two new Mystic Orders (the Ardent Soul and the Ghost Knife) developed by myself.

Some of this material (mostly rules information) is copied from the Unearthed Arcana article "Psionics and the Mystic: Take Two," released on the Wizards of the Coast Website in February of 2016. I do not own any of that material.

In addition, a plethora of Psionic Disciplines are included, written in the style of those presented in the aforementioned article. Enjoy.

I've collected a number of Mystic variations from this site and so far yours is in the lead for use in my game. But I have to wonder why they get single Psi Point at 1st level yet have a Limit of 2? Shouldn't they at least be able to activate one of their 1st level Talents at Level one? Secondly I'm confused by the description of the Force Bolt option Project Force. What exactly is the bonus damage dice you get for spending extra Psi Points? Does the Missile variation gain bonus damage dice or just extra projectiles?

Psionic Blast on page 14 is a greater discipline of the Ardent Soul Order. Why then does it's Psychic Focus add the Intelligence modifier rather than Wisdom modifier? Wisdom is the psionic ability of the Ardent Soul. Another option could be using whatever the mystics psionic ability modifier is; be it Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma. It seems strange to tie the only Ardent Soul greater discipline to Intelligence.

Page 5: Mind Mastery, references Mind Meld and Thought Spear. Those aren't described anywhere I could find. Maybe they are in the document but I can't seem to search it like a normal PDF document. There's something funny about this one. Your supplement (Psionic Boogaloo) doesn't suffer from that.

Mind Meld and Thought Spear were talents from the Official Unearthed Arcana article "Psionics and the Mystic - Mk 2." It should be available for free on this site. As for the searching function, it might have something to do with the bookmarks. I'll take a look at it when I get a chance.

I really like this class, I just started DMing a campaign with a player playing a Ghost Knife. I was wondering though if it would be possible for you to upload a version of the PDF that was copy pastable? I wanted to make "spell cards" for his Psionic disciplines and talents so he doesn't have to keep bringing up the PDF to check what the can do, and not to sound lazy but I really don't want to have to type them all out.

I'm not sure how to do that. I'll see what I can do,though.

I enjoyed this take on the UA Mystic, especially the roguish archetype, but was wondering why the pp were lower than full caster spell slot progression, oh and where is the order of the invisible hand?

Oh, I see the pp recover on a short rest. The lower pp # makes more sense now.

The invisible hand was another archetype I was thinking of adding. I might go ahead and make a sequel to this with more archetypes.

I noticed when looking at the Sample, you changed the Psi Point Progression from how it scales in the Psionic PDF that was put out by Wizards. Why is that? It jumps up at certain levels because that is when other spell casters are getting their next level of spell slot.

This version of the Mystic recovers PP on a short rest. I wanted to go with this approach to both set the Psion apart from normal spellcasters, and also to strengthen the thematic link with Monks. As for the number, I basically broke down the spell slots a caster gets per day into SP, then divided them by 3 (because the assumption is two short rests per day). Then I put that into an even progression, because asymmetry bugs me.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
