56 Cursed and Quirky Magic Items

ADD TO WISHLIST >

56 flawed and quirky magic items that your players may want to keep and use!  These items are ideal if you want a player to have magic at an earlier level since they are useful but have minor flaws associated with them, or to encourage creative problem solving at the table.

Liven up your session with the Ring of Cursing, the character receives advantage on Intimidation checks, but is required to use profanity in every sentence or take a point of damage!

Each item is balanced to make it useful, but somewhat flawed, adding flavor to any game session.

Hey there! I saw your amulet of truthful glibness and modified it and was wondering if I would be able to submit it to The Griffon's Saddlebag as a possibility to be made into an item by him?

Amulet of Truthful Glibness
Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement by a good-aligned character)

This star-shaped golden amulet holds a vibrant green emerald that glows in the presence of the kind-hearted. When you don this amulet, you feel a burst of confidence surge through your body. While wearing this amulet, you have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) and Charisma (Intimidation) checks while you are being truthful.

Curse. This amulet is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you until you are targeted by the "Remove Curse" or "Glibness" spell, causing you to unattune to it. While cursed, if you utter a lie, your face and ears become flushed, and the emerald in the amulet glows ruby red. Any creature that can see your face can tell you lied. At the Game Master's discretion, ability checks are made at disadvantage while the amulet is red.
Casting the Glibness spell while wearing this amulet removes the curse from the item.

Sure. Although, I don't think you actually need my permission. There is no copyright on ideas. If someone copied and pasted the exact text, that would be an issue. Given that you have already modified it, the text has likely already been altered enough and it is yours to do with what you will :)

Need? Maybe not, but I always like to ask when using other's ideas since it feels like the right thing to do. Thank you very much!

Just reading your preview, and I laughed several times.. as well as saw some really good items that would rock with a little DM secrecy in regards to the downfalls until a fairly decent Arcana check paired with an Identify casting could be done.. or just the party figuring it out from observation.

I loved the "Really Heavy Armor", even though I couldn't read it all. I will definitely be buying this. GOOD WORK!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
