Clarified the wording of the fear aura on the quickwood so that it makes more sense. The aura now lasts for 1 minute.

Changed thorn's weapon from longbow to shortbow, since Small creatures cannot wield a longbow without penalty. Also increased the save DC vs poison slightly.

Clarified the wording of the verdant prince's Oath Bond ability to make it clearer how many oaths it can have active at one time.

Changed the night twist's Song of Despair ability to make it clearer and easier for the DM to run. I also changed the fey'ri innate ability from dimension door 1/day to misty step 1/day in order to keep it in line with other fey.

Made another fix to the verdant prince. Corrected its AC from 20 to 21 to reflect its full unearthly grace trait. Also added an entry for unearthly grace in its stat block.

Updated. Made some corrections to the Verdant Prince stat block. Namely, I fixed the to hit with the quarterstaff with shillelagh from +7 to +9. I also changed the verdant missile attack to a ranged spell attack instead of a ranged weapon attack. Changed the to hit to +9 as a spell attack and the damage to 3d4+5 as a spell attack. Also made some minor format changes to clean up the stat block.

A note saying what was updated would not be unwelcome.

Thanks for the comment, Nod. Actually, I do provide update notes in the file update section. You can go to MY LIBRARY at the top right of any DMs Guild page and, once there, you should see the line for Book of Forests. At the far right of this line is a little "i" in a circle. Mouse over that information circle and you will see the date and time of the last update and my update notes. If that isn't showing up for you, please let me know.

Sure I can do that.

[my opinion only, take from it what you will]
When I get an alert that something in my library has been updated and I click the link that takes me to that particular item, it'd be nice not to have to work for it that much just to see what's changed.
Why make your customers click multiple buttons to find out more about the product when a single copy&paste lets everyone know what's up.

I'm making lots of monsters myself so I pay close attention to these things. Using the DMG chart for challenges, the Assassin Vine is really closer to Challenge 2 than 4. Bearhound is really closer to Challenge 5 or 6 as opposed to 1/2! Also, the bearhound may be able to cast something innately, but it was cut off. The Mandragora seems closer to Challenge 2 than 1/2 and the Shaedling seems closer to challenge 3 not 1. BUT OVERALL, considering there are 45 beasties in here, good work!

Thanks for your comments, Jeff. The Bearhound's CR is a typo and will be fixed. Thanks for pointing that out. And I will fix the innate spellcasting cutoff. I have it at CR 4 though. It's defensive CR is a straight 3 and its offensive CR is around 5.5. That averages out to 4.

For the assassin vine, because of its resistances and immunities, you double its effective hit points. So it has 136 hp. That's a defensive CR of 5 lowered by 2 because of its low AC (which is treated as an AC of 11 because of constrict). So a net defensive CR of 3. Its offensive CR is a 3 after adjusting for its attack bonus. So its net is a 3. I then raised it by 1 for its entangle ability. Hence 4. I think one could adjudge it a CR 3 as it is somewhere between 3 and 4, but I think 2 is too low.

For the mandragora, its defensive CR is between a 1/4 and a 1/2, even adjusting for fire resistance and magic resistance. Its offensive CR is a 1. So that averages out to about a 1/2. The only possible extenuating item is its ability to choke, but that is very situational (requiring advantage, doesn't do any extra damage, the target is not restrained, and the escape DC is very low (DC 11). Being unable to breathe is usually not a factor given how long PCs can hold their breath.

For the shaedling, its defensive CR is based on 26 hit points doubled for its resistances. That puts it with a defensive CR of 1.5. Its offensive CR is also 1.5. So its base CR is 1.5. It can fly but has no substantial ranged attacks. Its sleeping curse is a one-shot item that, unless it is facing a single PC will merely force another PC to take an action to wake up a sleeping PC. The wall of darkness is also not enough, IMO, to merit an increase in CR. So the shaedling, by my calculation, is between a CR 1 and CR 2.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
