Adventures by FishPirate - Supplement II: Creatures and Adventures Near Phandalin

Phandalin is a great location from which PCs can adventure. The information in this supplement can be used in conjunction with Lost Mine of Phandelver, After Lost Mine, other adventures set in and around Phandalin, or used to add more flavor to any town.

This supplement has information specific to the local varieties of the creatures that inhabit the plains and hills in the area of Phandalin and provides new NPCs, backgrounds, feats, organizations, and adventure seeds that DMs can use.

Can you give an example of the kind of adventures included in this? I'm trying to get a better of when in the story I would use these.

It has four adventure seeds. You would most likely use these when the party is in Phandalin (or any steeltlement) to add additional flavor to the adventure or if they need more experience. They could also be used for a party that is not just leaving the mine as a way to get them out in the middle of the orcs. Hope this helps. Please ask followup questions if you need more information.

Are the adventures useable right out of the box? How long would say each adventure takes? Also, how much xp would a party of 5 earn completing one adventure? Ballpark estimates are fine.

I do not think there is much prep necessary. Be familiar with skill checks and some of the UA rules such as mass combat and psyonics (these UA rules are identified in each part and are summarized in the appendices). The lengths will really depend on the amount of role play. If the party does not roll play it will not take very long (this is especially true of parts II, III, and IV. Part I has less role play opportunities than the other three. Also, the number of wandering encounters will effect the length of time and the experience amounts. I will look over them again tomorrow so I can give you a better answer.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
