Seeking mastery of the magical world is not something relegated to studious wizards, charismatic sorcerers, and pacted warlocks. Artificers seek to harness magical secrets to create magical items--both permanent and temporary. Versatile arcane magic-users, Artificers engineer magic and bind it, always curious and always inquisitive.

Use your skills--and the skills of your companions--to manufacture magic items during your downtime. As a Wandloren, create temporary wands, infuse existing wands with additional charges, and create all new wand-like implements. As a Mechanist, learn to master metal armor and weapons while tinkering with powerful magics; enhance weapons and armor, cast spells through enchanted metal, and eventually become one with your magic armor!

its been nearly a half a year since you uploaded think we are going to get the other archetypes anytime soon? i originally bought this because i was looking for a mechanist like the old 3.5 where you have your own little army of bots but i didnt realize when i purchased it, it didn't have all the archetypes hope we can get them from you soon?

Spencer, my original thoughts on the archetypes did not pan out the way I hoped they would. Since I don't do this as even a part time job (hence the Pay what you Want!), I haven't had time to redesign the archetypes. My game time for the last several months has been spent running campaigns where no one is playing an Artificer (making it much harder to test out new ideas). I haven't forgotten about this little project, but I unfortunately can't give you a timeline for new archetypes.

Having said that, even having your feedback that you would like to see a Mechanist (rather than, say, a Tinker or a Magewright) is important; I'd much rather know what you want and work toward that than spend my time developing something that no one is interested in seeing! Thank you for that.

Hey This artificer class you created is extraordinary and i really think its amazing an i downloaded the pdf but it only has the wandloren archetype, idk if something malfunctioned on my side an i didnt get the whole pdf or if thats all you put out so far. please let me kno if this was a download error or how i can get the other archetypes because i really want to create an artificer character with your class! thank you my emails if you want to email me idk if ill get a notification if you respond to this comment on here, thank you again and please keep making more awesome variant classes i love them!

When can we expect the other archetypes? They all sound very fun to play and I'm rather anxious to see what else the class has to offer.

I've spent some time trying to make the Mechanist work as a distinct archetype, but it always ends up looking like a Beast Master with a metal friend instead of a meat friend. Unfortunately, I do not have a timeframe on when the other archetypes will be up to even draft-level. I wish I did!

The wand with 3-5 charges seems overpowered. If i use scorching ray I basically get 3-5 second level spell slots that can do 6d6 damage each not to mention the additional 2 second level spell slots every short rest. No other class has anything near this damage potential at 3rd level.

I think a few things could be worked into, but this is already a great piece. but i think your item creation text is a cope out because you couldn'T come up with ideas to give stuff their own prices. so may i suggest you this little guide that should help people understand how the creation process of the 5E works.

- add the common to legendary price table from DMG.
- add a section telling people to use 1/10th the price if its ammunition of the said rarity.
- if its consumables (potions, scrolls) use the lower end number. (ex:common 50-100 would be 50)
- if its an attuned items, use the lower to mid numbers (ex:common 50-100 would be 50-75)
- anything else use the mid to higher end numbers. (ex:common 50-100 would be 75-100)

this way people can get a much better view of what they can achieve. you should also add a section about the time it takes to create such items and you should add a "Tinker Check" built into this, like your guy to succeed has to be...See more

As far as the execution of the item creation, as you mentioned, most of it's listed in the DMG--rather than the SRD. As such, I created as much new information as I could to help people, but as I understand it the material in the DMG is off-limits for these kinds of products. Folks that have the DMG can absolutely use it in tandem with this class, though!

As far as the wand issue, I'll definitely consider moving it. The reason I didn't is because the class's spellcasting is built on a modified Warlock chassis. As such, you'd expect to find an artificer with a decent power-cantrip (i.e. eldritch blast) to be of use to the party beyond a single encounter. My proposed solution here is to give a bunch of charges of a single spell--only one! Low versatility, but good single-action power. Perhaps a greater limitation on the spell-slot level of that first wand?

took me a while to reply, had forgotten about this.
The reason behind the wand being too strong at that level is that warlocks actually regain their spell slots after a short rest. so imagine a warlock casting both of this spells at level 3, then powering up to a wand that can fire 7 spells more. thats 9 spell slots of which 2 are gotten back every short rest. thats like as much as a wizard but that wizard will have to wait until level 17 to get 2 spells back every short rest. now if your class, was gaining these spell slots every long rest instead. i would totally agree on the wands being at third level. because he wouldn't be able to unload all of his power and get it back between battles. not to mention the cantrips which are much more eficient then what people think they are.

as for item creation, well you could create your own tables instead. like base yourself on the DMG if you need be. but change them enough so that its not their system or their numbers. basically i just find your book...See more

I completely agree with you that if these were just "free spells" and the caster could choose to use them however he/she saw fit, there would be a horrible imbalance. In this instance, though, the wand limits you to one spell. Yes, you can cast it several times, but it's only one: if you want damage, you've got it, but you're limited. If you want healing, you've got it, but you're limited. Utility? Same issue. And since concentration rules still apply, the best you can do is something repetitive (like damage or healing). Keep in mind too that it's got some variation to it: it's *between* 3 and 5 charges at 3rd--so you can't count on having a specific number. Remember that a 6th level wizard has 10 usable spell slots, can get up to 3 levels worth back during a short rest, and has a lot more versatility over how those slots will play out. The difference is that in exchange for the artificer having to choose just one spell for the wand, he/she gets extra casts...See more

I've been looking at the stats and I have to agree with Luc C that it makes no scince to not include a graph detailing the price of the artificier, the best option would probably be to halve the prices or have them be 3/4 the price dictated in the DMs guide as that means that you are not stealing from and it makes scince for the prices of the artifacts you make be a little cheaper.

If you don't even want to add a graph another option could be to tell the user to use the prices set up in the DMs Guide and give a page number.

meaning... i could literally take the DMG notes, and just call my book... "Explanation of the Creation process from the DMG." and i would be fine. why ? because im literally telling them to look for the DMG. but in your case, you even go further. you dont even give anything. players who would want your class would be forced to ask their DM to teach them about item creation. and at this point it is entirely based on if the DM wants that system or not. A class should be self suficient. meaning that all the necessary things needs to be in the class for it to work. in this case you have no creation process in the class. so no one is able to know how to create item, something that is vital to the class itself.

as for spell slots and how broken it is...
i dont need to play your class to know its broken. because i played in a game where i had pretty much 2 wands at level 3 and i broke the DM game. one was magic missile wand. and the other...See more

Andrew, at this point, the advice I've been given from others who write this kind of material for Wizards is that even that would constitute a problem (which is why I haven't been more specific). I wish I could!

Luc C, I'm still not entirely following your reasoning. "Identical" is not the same as "plagiarized." The key for plagiarism is that the idea is taken from another source without due credit (and in this case, compensation). Since I'm not paying Wizards to use their tables and ideas (they're not included in the SRD), I don't have the right to use them in my own product.

As for the example about the wand in your own game, I've played in a game and GM'd for a game where a low level wizard had a wand of magic missile: while it is a great boon to have one, being able to cast magic missile should not (alone) "break" the game. You're right that boosting the magic missile to 7th level can do a pretty high amount of damage, but if you do that you risk destroying the wand (an interesting trade-off), you've burned through all the magic missiles you get from the wand for the day (tough if you're in a time crunch and can't wait until the following day to recharge), and probably are...See more

and this is not plagiarism because i created my own names my own prices. and even if the prices were identical just changing the names makes it different enough for them not sue. These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
