Witch Class, D&D 5e (inspired by Dragon #114 witch)

Whether in the dark recesses of religious paranoia, or blasting across the pages of a fairy tale, the witch is a staple of fantasy storytelling^  Combining arcane might with devotion to hidden, eldritch forces and old gods, witches are versatile spell casters, both revered and reviled^

This supplement provides a fully playable witch class for the D&D 5e game^  Combining divine and arcane magic with unique powers, this class is inspired by the iconic 1e witch from Dragon Magazine #114 and fans of that class will see much they recognize here^  This class is also suitable for those who want to combine the raw power of arcane might with some healing power and a religious bent^  And don’t forget the familiars…not that they’d allow it…

Another question. Under the patrons gift area under gift of life, it talks of the witch being immune to max hit point damage. Can you expand more on this. Is this like the death ward spell? What if she is hit by an attacker while roles max damage as part of a regular attack, does she not get damaged?

Sorry it took awhile to respond, had some technical issues. This ability isn't like death ward. Some creatures, primarily undead when they hit do not only direct damage but also "max hp damage" (or reduce the maximum hp temporarily). This prevents the character from being healed again over that new, lower, maximum hit points. This ability prevents that kind of injury.

also note, a few more changes to the class, mainly new spell options and a new 8th level spell!

I love this character, but have two issues: 1) In the patron's gift area, it talks about abilities being, for example, once per "SR." What is SR?

2) the red candle at 5th level is not very clear. At the beginning of the candle magic description it states the candles last as long as the charisma modifier. So if my modifier is 2, then it is 2 rounds or 12 seconds. However the Magic Circle spell in the PHB lasts for 1 hour. So, does this last for, in this example, 12 seconds or 1 hour? Also, the second part of the spell indicates that you can summon a creature if you know its true name. Again, for how long - 12 seconds or 1 hour? If this all only last the number of rounds as the charisma modifier, the old candle (Plilter of Love), which lasted for a number of HOURS equal to the charisma modifier, is a way better spell.

Good catches. I've clarified (by defining it the first time it appears) that SR = short rest. I also fixed the red candle that it lasts for hours, not rounds.

Also updated with several new cantrips to make the Soul of the Dragon more versatile.

A touch unrelated to the contents (I just sat down to review them). Where did you get that lovely digital paper pack? I'm enjoying your presentation.

Thank you. Everything used was open source/creative commons/etc. Hope you enjoyed the class!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
