Classic Modules Today: I1 Dwellers of the Forbidden City 5e

To use this conversion guide you will need a copy of "I1 Dwellers of the Forbidden City," originally available in hard-copy and now for sale in Digital format at DMSGUILD.COM.

Introduction: An AD&D 1st Edition adventure written by David Cook where characters may explore a unique and interesting mini-campaign setting.

This conversion guide allows Dungeon Masters to run the original module with 5th Edition rules and provides a reference sheet for encounters.

Now with New Spell Notes and Spell Conversion Notes !

The adventure was first used as a module for tournament play at the 1980 Origins Game Fair, and was later published by TSR in 1981 for use with the first edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules. The module was written by game designer David "Zeb" Cook, who partly ascribes his hiring by TSR to his work on this module. In the adventure, the characters are hired to find an object taken to a lost oriental-style city, which has been taken over by a cult of snake-worshipers, the yuan-ti, and their servants, the mongrelmen and tasloi. The module was ranked as the 13th greatest Dungeons & Dragons adventure of all time by Dungeon magazine for the 30th anniversary of the Dungeons & Dragons game in 2004. Dwellers of the Forbidden City is the first of the mostly unrelated and unconnected Intermediate series (I-series) of modules designed for characters at between 4th and 8th levels.

Any chance these will be converted for use with Fantasy Grounds....I would definitely be interested if there is a way to run these on FGC or FGU....

For those wondering whether or not these conversions are worth it here is an unsolicited comment from a user who would prefer to remain anonymous because, well, trolls;

" A few people don't seem to get it. You are seeing, what, 2 or 3 negative reviews while they have been downloaded 100s of times. People are more likely to take the time to write negative reviews, especially troll types that dont get old school play and expect everything to magically equal out in challenge ratings.

You guys are doing great work. If you are happy with it, don't sweat a couple of people that miss the point. These conversions are far and away some of the best things on the entire DM Guild site."

Another review, this one was posted on Classic Modules Today: B2 The Keep on the Borderlands.

"I'm actually rather impressed!

Again, to clarify as some seem to have been confused about this, this is NOT the whole Keep on the Borderlands module, it's just a conversion guide that requires you to have the original.

That said, it's really well done and has plenty of references and stat blocks that remove most of the difficulty of preparing this adventure on your own if you plan to move it to 5e.

For the price (1 UK pound, in my case) this is more than worth the money. I will definately get more of these if my players like the old modules :)"

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
