7 New Ability Scores (plus character sheet!) (v.2.2)

Optional rules for Courage, Composure, Allure, Luck, Style, Piety, and Empathy

Secondary abilities further flesh out your character’s appearance and personality. Like the personality traits, ideals, bonds, and flaws that come from your character’s background, these abilities will help you bring your character to life in any roleplaying situation.

There are six secondary abilities (Courage, Sanity, Composure, Allure, Luck, and Style), and three tertiary abilities (Honor, Piety, and Empathy), which are alignment or class dependent. Their use in the game is described in this document. The DM can decide to add only one or a few of these abilities to the game.

  • 7 new Ability Scores
  • Honor and Sanity (adapted from the DMG)
  • A pdf character sheet that includes the 9 abilities, reknown, faction, and rewards.
  • Variant rules (No Alignment, Secondary Skills)
  • Optional feats

v2.0 : Added : Secondary Skills (Variant)

v.2.1 : Added : No Alignment (Variant) and Secondary Skills visual aid

v2.2 : Added : Racial Adjustments for Secondary Abilities

With the Secondary Skills variant rule, characters don't have secondary and tertiary abilities. Instead, these abilities are reinterpreted as 11 secondary skills that refer to different aspects of the six ability scores: Dexterity (Luck, Style); Constitution (Endurance); Intelligence (Composure, Etiquette); Wisdom (Courage, Piety, Sanity); Charisma (Empathy, Leadership, Seduction).

Full variant rules included in the document v.2.2

Download Note: For some reason, Android phones or tablets using Chrome or the default browser seem to have difficulty downloading certain pdf files, in which case you might get a "pdf not valid" or similar error when trying to open the files. If that happens to you, please use the Opera browser (available for free on the Google Play Store) or download the file from a laptop or desktop computer. Using the Opera browser on a phone or tablet seems to solve the issue. (I haven't tried Firefox).

Hey, I noticed that your sheet and rules use the word Reknown. I don't know if this is an spelling mistake of Renown (as it often is), or an intentional choice. (turning the commonly misspelled word into an actual word used in your rules). I can't edit it out and it kinda bugs me.

Besides that little niggle, I love the rules. I'm starting a new campaign and I'll be using them a lot :) thanks for the awesome rules :)

I bought & downloaded this expecting to have one or two concepts I would adapt to my game with a lot of stuff I didn't care about, and, to my pleasant surprise, it's extremely interesting and well thought out. It doesn't complicate existing rules as much as you'd expect - in fact it may help streamline them while helping provide more RP guidance to players. It's also a great way to incorporate a lot of optional rules from the DMG (Sanity, Honor, Piety, Reknown) without having to go out of your way to highly emphasize them in a game.

I'm planning to fully utilize it pretty much as written.

One question I have is if there's a version of the "primary" character sheet that matches this one in style? If there is I don't have it.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
