Classic Modules Today: B3 Palace of the Silver Princess 5e

To use this conversion guide you will need a copy of "B3 Palace of the Silver Princess ," originally available in hard-copy and now for sale in Digital format at

This conversion guide allows DMs to run the original module with 5th Edition rules and provides a reference sheet for encounters.

In 1981, TSR published the module named “Palace of the Silver Princess” with the module code “B3”. It was written by Jean Wells and Tom Moldvay and illustrated by Jeff Dee, David S. La Force, Erol Otus, Jim Roslof, Laura Roslof, Stephen D. Sullivan, Jean Wells, and Bill Willingham.  This 32-page booklet had an outer folder containing a map of the ruined palace.

Visit for instructions on creating your own classic module conversions and selling them on the DMs Guild.

This conversion guides will work with both the original “orange cover” version of the module written solely by Jean Wells, and the revised “green cover” version revamped and most likely written by Tom Moldvay. He polished up the text, revamped some of the dungeon, removed some of Wells' unique monsters, and filled in all the blanks. Some of Erol Otus' artwork was also swapped out, then the adventure was reprinted in its familiar green-covered form for actual distribution.

Your purchase allows you to convert both versions to your 5th edition D&D; rules.

Hi, about new monsters I'm able to find all the statistics but not the CR. Please could you update that information?
Thanks a lot

The new version which includes stats for the "green" cover edition, the one which was the edition made for widespread sale and distribution is now up for download. This new conversion guide is suitable to be used with either the "orange" cover original or the redone "green" cover edition. Enjoy!

Good points here. This is a conversion of the original orange covered module by Wells. I will get a copy of the green and add in any missing bits to the module.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
