Just flicking though the Dungeon Masters Handbook I was given by FG for my participation in their most recent kickstarter and was quite astonished to discover quite a number of the new monsters strutting around with over 100,000 hit points, according to their stats in my version of the release anyway. I've checked with one of my players and his copy has the same issue. As an example; Ogre Mage, CR 4, XP 1,100 starts his turn with 121,025 HP. I'd imagine quite a few named dragons would lose a limb to be so healthy and I'd hate to think of how many hours/day it would take a level 4 party to take that total down to zero. Or have I totally flipped my lid?

We'll talk to the writers who made the FG version. There were some errors months ago, you might also have an old version. Email us at cawoodpublishing@gmail.com for the newest version.

You're welcome, it's probably an old version of the FG formatted book.

Hey Jeff. Yes, the NPC monsters are like the ones in the in the Monster Manual. Like the Bandit and Druid for example. There are also some regular monster types. There is also a list of ready-made NPC stats with ability scores, alignments, backgrounds, classes, and races.

How do the two versions (this one and the one on RPGNOW) differ?

Best,

Tom

Good question Tom. So the DMs Guild version is more open and can be used with any 5E game. It makes use of the full range of D&D monsters and official elements. The other guide on DriveThruRpg and RPGNOW is more of a supplement to the unofficial World of Myrr campaign world. For example; the encounter lists in the DMs Guild version are for forests, hills, mountains, swamps, etc., where the Myrr version has more lists for the specific settlements in the campaign world. If you check the previews you'll see they differ slightly in other areas as well.

Thanks for the quick reply. Myrr looks good, so both may be worth a look to buy.

Best,

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
