Dungeons & Dragons 5e Directory

Suggested Price $0.50

The Dungeons & Dragons 5e Directory is meant to help you find the information you need quickly. Part index and part cross-reference, you can use the Directory to find the book(s) and page numbers(s) for certain information, cutting down on the amount of time spent flipping through one book after another.

The Directory will be updated as new materials are made available. While having all of the great community-created material found here at the Dungeon Master's Guild included would be great, I've had to limit the lists to official Wizards releases.

Current Listings include:

  • Unearthed Arcana articles
  • Races & Subraces (variants are also included in this list)
  • Templates (i.e. half-dragons and vampires)
  • Classes & Archetypes
  • Fighting Styles
  • Backgrounds & Features
  • Downtime Activities
  • Feats
  • Updated spell lists for all classes
  • Magic Items
  • Monsters by Challenge Rating
  • Monsters by Type

Have you had a chance to update this product with the content from Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes yet?

It's a work in progress. I'm currently in the middle of a career change and preparing to move halfway across the state as part of that. My goal is to have it updated by the end of the month (July) but that's contingent on a smooth transition at work.

Thank you for your patience and interest in the project. :)

Are the 2 sets of files for download the same? The 2 printer friendly files both have the Gith UA, but 2016 WotC copyrights. Can you include the date the file was last edited in the filenames, and in the footers of the pages?
The last date in the log is "02/08/2017", which should probably be after 09/11/2017. Can you use the RFC 3339 date format: 2017-09-11 instead? That way it can't cause confusion between month/day and day/month formats, and RFC 3339 dates ordered alphabetical are also chronological.

Yes, the files are the same. The only difference is that the "printer friendly" version has no background page color.
The 2016 copyright/legal notice was included by WotC (I'm using the template they provided when the Guild started operation back in Feb. 2016). I never bothered to change it.
The "02/08/2017" date in the Update Log was a typo. The file was last updated on Sept. 12, 2017, the day after the Eladrin/Gith UA was released.

By 2 sets, I mean there are 2 copies of both the printer friendly and normal files:
Are the files with the same names, the exact same files?

I'll be honest: I have no idea why you're seeing two sets of files. I upload the new copies whenever I make changes, remove the old files, and tell the system to save the changes. Perhaps it didn't properly delete the old files last time? I just checked my "Edit/Upload Files" and it's only showing one pair at the moment (one regular and one printer friendly).

At first glance, this looks like a fantastic resource! Nicely done! Hopefully you will be able to get it updated again soon.

I noticed that you didn't include the demon lords and creatures in the Out of the Abyss appendices. Any particular reason for this?

Thanks for the question and sorry for the delay in responding. Life took a turn for the complicated in early March and it's just now settling down. I hope to get the Directory updated again soon.

I originally opted not to include them because I was trying to avoid adventure-specific NPCs but I realized later that the Demon Lords aren't really tied to Out of the Abyss (or even the Forgotten Realms setting) so I'll include them in the next update.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
