ADD TO WISHLIST >

This is a PDF of Athanae’s Divinations. If you are looking for the Fantasy Grounds VTT module – click here.

This is Athanae’s Divinations, a sourcebook of divination spells and supplemental material for 5e D&D. If you thought diviners were weak or ill-suited for dangerous adventuring, think again!

What’s inside?

  • Twenty-Eight new and/or reimagined divination spells with DM’s sidebars and examples.
  • Spells of every level, 1 through 9!
  • The Seer background (with custom traits, ideals, bonds and flaws).
  • A divination arcane tradition alternate ability, the séance.
  • Great ideas for bringing new roleplaying possibilities to the ritual tag of divination spells.

Written by ENnie award winning authors Jeff & Dawn Ibach; instigators and cowriters of AEG’s Toolbox, Ultimate Toolbox, and many other articles and writing for 3rd edition era sourcebooks.

I don't see a class list for the spells. Which spells are available to which classes?

This looks great. I have a player who is leaning in hard on the RP elements of his divination selection, so happy to have more content for him. Quick note, in "Know Contents," one would be unable to determine the "denomination" of coins, not their "demonization" - though I am no intrigued by the idea of demon coins! :-)

oh, one other minor thing. Typo on spelling of Aerial in Arial Track. Only stating it to help correct.

I love this resource (I was the name withheld review for 4 stars). I noted though that you didn't list a class spell list, so which classes can cast these spells. I'm assigning them out myself right now, and it made me take a second look at the ritual prophecy. If you're going to keep that as a ritual, you need to tone down its power a little (for instance, an 18th level caster gives 9 advantage die rolls in completion of a task... which if he knows what's in the next room can define an entire encounter). You should also specify that it must be cast so as to be used on a creature you've scryed in a crystal ball. Its definitely a good concept, but it can be fleshed out better.
Also, dire vision, I'd recommend changing the part where you can spend both additional actions in the same turn, and I'd recommend specifying that the new actions are treated as bonus actions (to limit the number of total actions a person can do, since you aren't somehow making them faster).

There are no Divination spells in the PHB at levels 7 and 8, and I was surprised to find that none were added in this supplement. I'm playing a Divination Wizard in my current campaign, and I was hoping for something to allow me to take even better advantage of the Expert Divination feature. Might be worth considering for a future, revised edition.

Thanks for the feedback and purchase James! Your notes are very helpful in our effort to make this the best it can be. Dawn and I have added new 7th, 8th and 9th level divination spells to this book and a revision will upload soon. Thank you again!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
