Classic Modules Today: I6 Ravenloft (5e)

In 1983, TSR published the module named “Ravenloft” with the module code “I6”. It was written by Tracy and Laura Hickman and illustrated by Clyde Caldwell. This 32-page booklet had two outer folders containing maps by David Sutherland III. It spawned a 1986 sequel, "I10 Ravenloft II: The House on Gryphon Hill"; together, they formed the basis of AD&D 2nd Edition's Ravenloft campaign setting. In 2004, for the 30th anniversary of the Dungeons & Dragons game, Dungeon magazine ranked this module the 2nd greatest adventure of all time.

This conversion guide allows DMs to run the original module with 5th Edition rules and provides a reference sheet for encounters.

To use this conversion guide you will need a copy of "I6 Ravenloft", originally available in hard-copy and now for sale in Digital format at

"Classic Modules Today: B4 The Lost City" contains the OpenOffice/LibreOffice source files used to create the PDF. Visit for instructions on creating your own classic module conversions and selling them on the DMs Guild.

Looking at the quick reference sheet's Castle Ravenloft random encounters, and I have to ask. What in the hell is "Cynidicean!?" And you have giant tiger beetles, driver ants, giant lizards, and Thuuls as the random monsters. I think you have the random encounter table from a completely different adventure listed.

You have a completely different table of encounters in the main portion of the document, but it has like 3 of the encounters being just swarms of ordinary bats.

If you ask me, you need to do some updating to these random encounter tables.

That'll be a cut and paste from 'The Lost City' but not corrected, I assume.

For others' reference, according to the listing for this product on the author's website, this adventure anticipates the party will begin the adventure at level 5 and end at level 7.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
