Hello im looking at version 4 and i have a few problems looked at the potential of a lvl 16 version of this class with the subclass The Condemned and its ability at that level in combination with its 6th level ability.
so firstly with the level 6 part of the class the summonner could give up all of its spells at that level to have a total of 68 summoner points (65 from spell slots, 3 from class level).

Now the first problem here arises in that there's nothing preventing the player from say summoning 68 CR 8 creatures (example creature: the CR: 8 Chain Devil) and this lovely army gets to be the summoners 68 closest buddies for a whopping 16 hours not requiring concentration. please.. put a limit on how many can be summoned at once.. this is just too much...

Second Problem taking the sub classes' level 16 feature into account you can spend 5 summon points to increase the CR of the summoned creature by 1 and does not say a limit to how many times you may do this. what this means is...See more

I should add a note that says this, but you can never summon more than your "summon creature" maximum allows. The idea of the Summoner's Deal feature is that you can regain some of your previously used summons, but you can never have more than 4 summoned creatures at once, and then, only if you are 17th level or above.

One question, in the spell casting section it says that you can prepare a spells from the summoner spell list equal to your spellcasting modifier plus your summoner level but in the table where it shows the number of spell slots you have it also has a spells knows column. Which is the correct way to determine how many spells you can have prepared?

So, the number of spells you're allowed to know is based on the table in the book, however, the spells you are allowed to prepare (ie. are able to cast that day) are based on the equation you mention above (modifier + level)

When it says that the condemned can "summon any neutrally aligned creature," does this mean that they can summon any creature with an alignment where Neutral is the last word (CN, LN, N), where it is the first or second word (NG, NE, N, CN, LN), or only Neutral?

I'd guess the former would be your best option.

As long as it has neutral in the name it is a legal creature for the summon, as up to DM discretion of course.

Hey, I have a few questions. I tried to download all 4 versions above, but it seems to be just the same one, There is no version 1,2,3 or 4. is there any reasons to this?
And As i look though the class. what is the reason for "Summoner’s Ritual" if it takes an hour to Summon a creaturer of your level divided by 4, why would this be worth it, considering 1 hour is the length of a short rest, to which you can just use your normal summoning which is 1/3 your level ,or even later on 1/2 your level?

Beside this. I love the idea of this class. been looking for a real summoner class for 5E, and it looks like it will scrath that ich. but i am afaird being able to summon this much, on top of being almost a full spellcaster might be to strong?

There are some slight balancing variations in the each version. The most recent version is considered the most balanced, but with a lack of extensive playtesting, we offer older versions that may work better for your DM and campaign.

The use of the ritual summon to summon one creature without using a normal summon thus using it the same way you would a familiar.

I wanted to chime in here and state that one of the glaring issues with this class is that the Summoned Monsters from your pool are not bound by Concentration or a number limit. If the special summons used your concentration, then yes you could only have one out at a time; however, in the current rules (only reviewed 4.0) you can continually summon as many Summons as you have available in your pool.

For example, a level 3 summoner can now summon 2 CR 1 monsters that last for 3 hours. Travel with them both active for an hour or two, then take a short rest. Then they can repeat the process. Give them a few levels and you soon see that the time you have this growing CR monster available grows. Level 6 you can summon two CR 3s, take a short rest, summon two more. Now you have 4 CR 3s travelling with you for 5 hours. Highest level you spend a few extra hours at the start of the day and you leave with a veritable army of summoned creatues (spend 2 short rests at level 20 for 12 CR 10 monsters that stay...See more

I really appreciate the input! I believe early on I had this class only have half caster abilities, but your points are very valid. I'll look into re-working the ability gap.

This is a good job, the only problem is that at the beginning the class is too weak and in the end it is too powerful

Thank you for the feedback! I haven't had as much playtesting as I would like and it's important to get feedback from you, the players! I'll see how I can make the balancing a little more even.

A friend of mine (him being the player and I being the DM) brought to the table a Summoner Class from the Dungeon Master's Guild. At the time, I skimmed over it and cleared it with him as "Ok". Now, I'm thinking the class is broken and doesn't make sense mechanics and lore-wise. Any suggestions on changes so I can talk to my player on the same level? To me, this class doesn't seem fair at all with it being too OP. You could tell me that this class is not over-powered at all and is in fact, under-powered like my initial thoughts. Though this was like... 2 months ago when I had only been a DM for 3-4 months prior.

I would say the best way to Nerf this class would be to use the Half-Caster version, which is the class in its original format. Download The_Summoner_2.0.pdf, this will have spells up to 6th level. If you have any specifics you could offer, I might be able to give you a better suggestion.

Does the summoned creature act like the rangers companion or does it get its own actions?

This was originally left up to DM discretion, howeve,r it was originally designed so that the summoned creatures act independently of their Summoner, however, if this seems overpowered, you may have the creature act in a similar manner to a Ranger's companion.

The main difference is the class has been modified to be a full-caster, instead of a half-caster.

In the subclass section depending on which subclass you choose at level 2.
See The Blessed, or the Condemned

"at 2nd level choose 5 creatures to create a summon pool."

I just downloaded the PDF, and I was looking threw. I wasn't able to find the lvl 12 perk Summon Beast Improvement. I don't know if i missed it or not. And an other question i had pertained to summoners ritual. If you cast this does it count against your total summoned creatures, and are you able to summon it when you already have a summoned creature out.

You can use the ritual without using a daily summon, and you may use this at any point without withdrawing your current summon.

The Summon Beast improvement is stated under Summon Creature as: "When you reach 12th level in this class you can summon a creature with a challenge rating as high as your summoner level divided by 2, rounded down.:

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
