Journey to the Buried Vale

Welcome to Christmas in July! In celebration, this digital title has been marked down by 25%! For more values, visit our Christmas in July sale page.

With the snows of winter receding, the scouts of Citadel Hoarfrost have spotted an unexplored cave nearby in the Buried Vale. As their first assignment, a group of young dwarven adventurers has been selected to journey to the vale and delve the recent discovery. But is their assignment all that it seems, and what dangers await them in the Buried Vale?

Journey to the Buried Vale is a 2-hour Forgotten Realms™ adventure for a party of five 1st level dwarven adventurers set near the lands of Narfell in northeastern Faerûn. In addition to the 10-page adventure, the download also contains printable battle maps for each encounter and five pregenerated characters to expedite play.

This adventure is part of a loosely connected series that includes the titles below. You do not need to have played any of the other adventures to enjoy this one.

Journey to the Buried Vale
Journey to the Summer City
Journey on the Long Road
Journey to the High Country

Hi Dave, Thank you so much for the artwork credit, I really appreciate it. I have bought the 3 adventures to add to my library.

If you have any artwork requests please do not hesitate to let me know, I'm just sort of randomly putting them out there at the moment!

I had Buried Vale before to, which I must say is quite good, which led me to get the rest. Just noticed that youve made Summer City free to download ... I'm going to contribute for it for the effort done. Looking forward to seeing the rest in the series (only 2 thumbs up as I only have 2 thumbs).

Per Lyrra's recommendation, I added a little diversity to the pregenerated characters. I also adjusted the necessary boxed text and cleaned up some other errors.

Wow! That is so awesome AND truly appreciated! Thank you for the awesome adventure and the update!!

I am definitely going to make a special place/location for this in my homebrewed, non-Forgotten Realms setting! :)

I just wanted to thank Josh G. for his review. Given that he isn't a fan of the adventure style, his words were doubly kind.

I have a backlog of adventures that I'd like to make available through the DMs Guild, and not all of them are the same style as Journey to the Buried Vale. But when I decided to contribute to the community, I grabbed the adventure that had the most polish and playtesting to start.

There are one or two more short convention-style adventures in the Dwarven Delves series I'd like to put up, and after that, perhaps something a little different.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
