Deities and Domains: Specialty Priests of the Forgotten Realms (39 Feats for 5E)

Do you fondly remember the Specialty Priests from Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Second Edition?  This book uses feats to update additional abilities of Specialty Priests to Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition.

Within these pages you will find thirty-nine feats for the thirty-seven Forgotten Realms deities listed in the D&D Fifth Edition Player’s Handbook.

Note: This product was previously titled "Specialty Priests of the Forgotten Realms Vol 1" and has been completely revised and expanded with the aid of great  feedback from purchasers.

Here are three example deities and their Specialty Priest feats:

Prerequisite: Cleric with the Arcana or Knowledge Divine Domain

You are an apprentice to the god of wizards and mages. The Lord of Spells has taught you that reason is your greatest weapon. Your vestments are shimmering gray silk and alway wear Azuth’s symbol on your chest.

Thanks to your devotion, you gain the following benefits:

  • When you cast a spell that has a casting time of 1 action, you can change the casting time to 1 bonus action for this casting. Once you use this ability, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.
  • You learn the mage hand cantrip.
  • You learn the comprehend languages spell and it is a domain spell for you.

Prerequisite: Cleric with the Life or Light Divine Domain

You are a sworn sentinel of the god of protection. Your vestments are spotless, shining armor with open-faced helms. You may wear red cloaks and tabards of gray.  You always wear Helm’s symbol.

Thanks to your devotion, you gain the following benefits:

  •  You gain a +5 bonus to your passive Wisdom (Perception) score to resist being surprised.
  • When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.
  • You learn the light cantrip. You may cast light as a bonus action.
  • You can cast the glyph of warding spell once per day as a 3rd level spell. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Prerequisite: Cleric with the Death Divine Domain

You celebrate the inevitability of  the god of death. Your charge is to remind all mortals that there is no escape from the Reaper.

Your vestments are black robes with hooded cloaks and a bone-white sash around your waist.

Thanks to your devotion, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain the Channel Divinity: Command Undead from the Oathbreaker Paladin and may target two undead creatures you can see within 30 feet.
  • You are immune to disease.
  • You can cast the feign death spell once per day as a 3rd level spell. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

I can't tell by the preview (it's super short....not even a look at a Table of Contents), so I'm asking here: does this include Hanali Celanil?

No, Hanali is not included.

Fyi, looks there's a copy and past issue with Lliira and Mystra, not sure Mystran priests should be wearing skin tight/plunging neckline outfits...

So I'm a bit confused, and a bit hesitant on buying this product. How is it that you can distill the whole of a Specially Priest in only one or two feats?

Honestly, given the concept and all that Specialty Priests offer, I'd suspect that having them be a Cleric specialization would make more sense. Perhaps variants on different domains in connection to a particular deity.

For example, I'd love to be able to play the Morninglord as I once did with AD&D 2e but I cannot see how I could do such with only the use of one or two feats.

Sylvain B. I apologize for replying under the discussion portion, but I'm only the Author and can't reply directly. I appreciate your concise review. As I approached every deity again I realized that many of their special abilities could be rolled into spells. I also, using my experience as a Mountain Druid, felt that instead of certain spells being x times per rest or x times per rest, domains spells offered a great deal of flexibility. It allowed utility spells to be available and allowed cool effects without dominant damage output to also have get more spotlight. I feel that 1 cantrip and 2 domains line up pretty closely with Magic Initiate because a second Domain spell isn't always available and doesn't automatically grow in effect like a cantrip as you level. I generally stuck to 1 Cantrip and 1 Level 2 Domains spells or 1 Cantrip and 1 Level 1 and 1 Level 2 Domain spell, but occasionally, based on the Deity in question's flavor and the type of spell allowed Level 3 spells in there. Steed for instance...See more

How do these differ from the great job you did on Crossplanes, which if the same are a good preview of a few already done?

Hi Thomas W,

I went through and looked at every deity again. In many cases, I adjust things looking at it with a fresh eye. Often, I settled on expressing some abilities as an additional cantrips and two domain spells.

I did this, because domain spells don't need to be prepared and increase flexibility in my opinion.

If you get a chance, contact me at mark AT, I'd be glad to offer you a free copy for your opinion.

To the customer who withheld their name, I'm sorry you feel this way. I put a great deal of time into this product and while often it merely expands the spells known to a cleric, this was done to emulate certain powers from previous editions. I do appreciate your feedback and will take your criticism seriously. I will add that I don't believe that I can add a preview, I've not found the DMsGuild system to allow that, but will take a look into it. I'm not ashamed of my product and have no reason to shy away from previewing it. I am replying in the Discussion area, because I'm considered an Author by the system and not the Publisher.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
