D&D Citizens: Extra NPCs

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Appendix B of the Monster Manual provides a number of generic NPCs that can be used in numerous ways, especially if re-skinned in a different role. For example, the bandit NPC on page 343 of the MM can easily work as a brigand, a street tough, a mercenary recruit, and so on. However, while it might represent a pirate, there are better ways to capture that archetype.

The NPCs herein are meant to fill a number of gaps and provide you with a larger variety of characters to inhabit the worlds you create, ranging from CR 1/8 to CR 6.

  • Alchemist (CR 1)
  • Apprentice Mage (CR 1/8)
  • Bounty Hunter (CR 1)
  • Grand General (CR 6)
  • Guild Thief (CR 1/2)
  • High Priest (CR 6)
  • Master Thief (CR 5)
  • Military Officer (CR 3)
  • Minstrel (CR 1/8)
  • Pirate (CR 1/4)
  • Soldier (CR 1/4)

Would buy if it was 1$. As someone said further down, these items tend to stack up and I have only a poor students wallet.

Didn't mean to start a revolt but can certainly understand why it was so easy to do... All I'm gonna say is that this morning when I saw post about a DM'sGUILD the first thought that came to mind was "Awesome a place where DMs can openly share homebrew, adventures, & helpful tools." And I also understand that people should be able to charge for thinks they have put a lot of time and energy into... But we all have a common goal in mind... Making the best D&D experiences for ourselves and our players... Shouldn't we be more helpful and less hurtful to the wallets?? Like Jacob B. Stated it's very simple to make these things and a lot of us alead have... Why not share them for other DMs to use freely or at least within reason?? And Jacob B. as you stated that you make lots of them already I hope that you post them for all if us to share... You can't complain about a problem if you don't work towards a solution as well... I for one will be uploading all content "worthy of sharing" as I come...See more

Drop the price to "pay what you want" and I'll buy this, for $1.99

I agree with Kevin M. When the MM doesn't have something I want, I simply just make it. If I need an alchemist or a pirate or a military officer, I simply make one. 5th Edition is fluid enough in scaling that you can pretty much make whatever you want. Besides, the chances of the above mentioned NPCs being exactly what you want is very slim. So you'd have to change them anyway. Doesn't make sense to buy any of this stuff.

DM Tool Box in the DMG makes this PDF obsolete.

Unless you're lazy. Or... don't have time. But let's be real here, "I don't have time" is the adult version of "The dog ate my homework."

Don't pay to play. You bought your books, use your mind and make it yourself.

I have to admit I am one of those 2 lazy to build my own all the time... Between work and kids I lack the free time to do much monster making... And I would gladly pay for some good monsters... But at these costs I will gladly wait for another monster manual....

I work 50-60 hours a week. I am married. I have a kid. I have hobbies besides tabletop.

I'm sorry that you simply cannot fathom a scenario where someone wouldn't have time to devote their free energies into coming up with the stats, voicework, backgrounds, etc for NPCs but not everyone can devote all of their free time into this stuff.

Also, don't tell someone what to do with their own money if it doesn't effect you at all. You have the type of attitude that drives people away from the hobby.

Thanks for you speedy reply... A year and a half is surely an appropriate response time... Also I ha e no idea what your actually talking about to be 100% honest as I surely never advised anyone on how to spend their own money, never mentioned anything about "voice work" or backgrounds, nor did I advise you to spend anytime whatsoever creating stats for monsters... Simply was giving an opinion on monster stats that you elected to create of your own will and list on a site for other to purchase (and leave feedback) according to ones own interest and opinion... I certainly understand your time constraints as I am also married, raise five children as well as take care of a senior citizen not to mention running two weekly games of which I create all the Homebrew for which is typed, formated, printed (and laminated in the case of handouts), all while working a full time job as well... So I certainly apologize if statements that I made nearly two years ago offended you in anyway, I will make sure to withhold...See more

Im sure im not the 1st to say this but do you not think the prices on these are a bit high?? I know individually 3-4 dollars may not seem that bad but if i were to buy all of these I'd be looking at the upside of 20$ or more... Say there were 10 of them containing an average of 8 monsters toyalling about 80 monsters and NPC's these ranging between 3-7 dollars a set, I'd be paying 50$... The same cost as the entire Monster Manual which contains around 300 monsters and NPC's and is sold as a hardcover book... So I would be getting a quarter of the monsters for the same price and this is just a PDF copy not even a book for the game shelf... That being said the work is awesome and i would love to add these to my gaming tool kit. But going forward just may wanna consider the original spirit of the game... A simple game where friends can sit around and enjoy a wonderful experience ofthe imagination... Not the Wallet...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
