We (Wizards) recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website does not reflect the values of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise today. Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial, and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. This content is presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Dungeons & Dragons teaches that diversity is a strength, and we strive to make our D&D products as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This part of our work will never end.

My players stopped for tea at the mill. It took two hours to investigate the burnt cottages. They were so off rails, but everyone, including people who have run the module several times loved it. They also "solved" it at the end of the first act. The final "battle" was finished in half a round.

This module can be a string of encounters, but if you just let your players play, it's a really interesting adventure for role playing.

I ran this as my first DDEX module. My players seemed to like it. I agree that no one likes being captured but the battle at the end made up for it.

I agree with the other commenters that the first part is so railroady that i hurts.
But the arena combat was fun and exciting, and after all this trouble they really enjoyed kicking "the mans"(half-orc) XXX.

I actually searched for this because someone mentioned that it contains a way of running arena combat which is apparently very good, but I notice all the comments strongly dislike the module as a whole. Before I buy it, can anyone give me their thoughts on the arena component (*is there* actually an arena component, or have I been referred to the wrong module)?

Very difficult to run and play without a well prepared GM.
The mod forces actions on the players that they would try their best to avoid which makes it even more difficult if the players get around the railroad.

The absolute worst Adventurers League mod so far. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. A total railroad in the first two parts of the adventure, and the player's are basically spectators in the finale. Even the author felt the adventure was so poor he had to rationalize and apologize to DMs and players at multiple points in the adventure.
I'd give it the lowest possible review, but DMG won't let you review anything you haven't purchased.

The railroadiest of railroady adventures. I ran this for 3 straight days at Gen Con 2015 and had only one group garner any enjoyment out of that, and that was only because they managed—against all odds—to derail the adventure and actually do something interesting within it. I beg you not to buy this adventure to inflict on your players unless they are absolutely fine with just doing whatever the story wants them to do without any desire of pursuing their own agendas or doing anything creative. Also particularly glaring: unless their characters have already gone though DDEX301, Harried in Hillsfar, and met a certain character, there is a character whose suicide is completely unpreventable. This wasn't such a struggle when these .PDFs were provided free to stores and conventions, but now this means that you will have to shell out another couple bucks on that adventure in addition to this one so as to ensure that what little agency your players can possibly have isn't snatched away from them as well.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
