Defiance in Phlan

The Cult of the Dragon has come to Phlan, a lawless refuge on the Moonsea. Now, with no significant authority to stop the cult, other power groups in the Realms--the Harpers, Order of the Gauntlet, Emerald Enclave, Lords' Alliance , and even the Zhentarim--must untite to stop the cult from fulfilling its dark purpose in the city. Join the fight by participating in any one of five different missions aimed at stopping the cult.

An introductory adventure for 1st-level characters.

If anyone is interested, I did a full blog series on the lessons I learned designing this adventure. If you are interested in game and adventure design, or if you just want some insight into what I was thinking when I wrote it, where I feel like I could have done something better, etc., you can check it out here:

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has purchased the adventure, DMed it for players, left reviews, or who have otherwise encouraged me and contributed through their participation in this great hobby!

I realize this material is old, but there seem to be links in the PDF that no longer are really links. Most are self explanatory but...

1 - Am I missing something, are the links working for others?
2 - Biggest now is pregen characters, is it referring to the pregen characters on WOC website?

5/5 stars.

Fun adventure to run. Good introduction to the season. The description doesn't match the map in the last mission, but it's minor; not enough to lose a star.

OK, new to the online side of D&D. How do I add the .MOD file so it can be accessed in Fantasy Grounds?

Copy the .mod file into the modules folder in FG.
On Windows:
%appdata%\Fantasy Grounds\modules

5/5 Stars

I really enjoyed running this. My players like to RP...A we ran long on every mod but it made it even more fun.

Long rest between the mission was a nice way for level ones to recover.

I geeked out big time over the Tiamat reference with Madame Freona's Daughters.

5/5 Stars

This is a great module for introducing new players to 5e. I particularly like how each mission is given by a different faction which helps to give new players an idea of the motivations and goals of each faction. The missions have a nice balance of combat, stealth and investigation overall, which means everyone will be able to contribute something.

While each mission can be run in an hour, they can definitely run significantly longer if most of your players are new.

This was a fun and interesting mod. I ran it for a group of friends at the comic shop. They are new to 5E and they had a blast.

Excellent introduction to D&D. I used this for a school group and was able to complete each of the missions in a series of after school sessions. Players then had levelled up and worked out the mechanics. None of the story lines were overtly complex and so worked well.

Bought it on Dms guild login. I don't know how to merge them.

Stars: 4/5

I enjoyed DMing this more than I initially thought. Unless you really cut the RP, and npc interactions short it will take a lot longer than 1h per adventure tho. If you really use it as an entrance for new players to DnD or AL then plan to use 8h at least. Aside from that it is very enjoyable so long as you weave some of the information that is given to us as DMs into the adventure, maybe through exposition or people telling them. Because most of the information that we get is very interesting and paints a very interesting story that is about to happen in phlan. If you decide not to do that, players might feel like its an interesting thing thats happening right now but it doesn't really feel like part of a bigger picture.

This was a really great module. My players thoroughly enjoyed it!
The fancied themselves like the A-Team.
A Mastermind, a Face, and Bruiser, and a WILDCARD!
It was more along the lines of 3 bruisers, 1 of which was the face and the mastermind and a wildcard wizard who would yell THUNDERWAVE!!

This module is really great. It has a little something for everyone, and the setting is really a nice way for new players to learn the basics. Overall, I think it is a classic introductory adventure. I would give it 4/5 Stars.

Got this module for use by a friend, so posting review here.

Stars: 4/5
This was a great introduction to AL for my players. It had a wide arrange of playstyles with the different individual adventures. It makes everyone in the party feel useful as a talker, investigator, combattant or something else.

I ran this for my FLGS. Since it was their copy, not mine, I am reviewing it here instead of in the reviews section.

Overall: 4 stars. Great introduction for first time players. The mini-adventures within it are (mostly) simple, fun and easy to run. The challenges they present to PCs test a wide variety of different skills and character types - from stealth to RP to combat to problem solving; and any player playing all 5 will feel like they've contributed in unique ways.
A few specific notes on adventure 4:
The 4th mini adventure can be a bit challenging, especially with a big group. In a group of 4 or less, you can run through a bunch of rounds, and the players will get new clues each round, so they'll get to a point where they can solve it without great leaps on intuition within a reasonable time frame. A larger group (like the 7 I ran it in), each round took forever. Not just because there were lots of people taking their turns;...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
