The 5e Ranger, Re-Revised

This is intended as a complete replacement for the Ranger as presented in the Player’s Handbook. It may not be compatible with some options from other sourcebooks, as some abilities may be duplicated.

The intent is to take the best of both the original class and the Revised Ranger Unearthed Arcana, smoothing over the rough edges and improving mechanics, while keeping the ranger competitive as a martial class. The ultimate goal is to create a version of the ranger that I would find exciting to play.

Includes three Ranger Conclaves: the Beast Master, the Hunter, and the Gloom Stalker.

Focus is on low- to mid-level improvements, and emphasizing the “feel” of a ranger:

·         Skilled at both ranged and melee combat, no need to choose one or the other.

·         No abilities dependent on specific circumstances (favored terrains and enemies, winning initiative).

·         Wilderness skills able to compete with Expertise Rogues and Bards.

·         Core themes are rangers as wilderness experts, mobile combatants, swift scouts, and stealthy ambushers.

·         Beast Master Conclave is less “all in” on their beast companion while retaining the companion scaling with the ranger’s level.

·         Hunter options adjusted to be more competitive with each other.

·         Some abilities expanded to provide benefits to the whole party.
