Artifice & Invention - Magewright Update

Suggested Price $3.49

This supplement is themed around research and invention, and provides class options and spells to reflect both traditions of discovery and innovation and the older, more practiced traditions that stand in opposition. This includes:

  • A new take on the artificer based on the bard chassis, designed to emulate the artificer of 4th Edition with its focus on supporting allies without making assumptions about the frequency of magic items in the campaign
  • New archetypes to go with this artificer, the item-focused Artisan, the combat-ready Battlesmith, the fleshgrafting Graftmaster, the construct-focused Homunculist, and the spell-hacking Schematist
  • New fighter archetypes to cover character tropes previously unified under the artificer – the Arcane Blade, a melee variant of the Arcane Archer, and the Frame Adept, who ties magic into a suit of armor
  • New rogue archetypes for the same reason – the Demolitionist, with a wide arsenal of bombs, and the Inventor, a tricky lateral thinker and option for those who’d rather their inventions not rely on magic
  • A new warlock patron, the Formula Illuminate, for mad scientists everywhere
  • A reimagining of the wizard class, with five new traditions that reflect fictional wizards who don’t fall neatly into the eight schools of magic – the Alchemist, whose spells are expanded by understanding matter, energy, and the physical world; the Magewright, whose focus on rituals makes magic a simple profession; the Occultist, who traffics with evil or at least unpleasant powers to learn forbidden knowledge; the Truenamer, whose use of truenames empowers their spells and who can speak mighty commands; and the Witch, whose rustic focus makes them no less formidable
  • New spells to reflect the use of magic to alleviate day-to-day problems as well as those of adventurers
  • A welding of the original Artifice & Invention concepts with the Korranberg Chronicle Adventurer's Almanac's ideas on how to emulate that in 5th Edition D&D
  • Original artwork by the author

This guide was a labor of love created over school breaks. Donations are accepted but by no means expected; I’m far more interested in your readership and support.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
