Whisperer: 5th Edition D&D Summoner

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $1.05

An arcane caster who bonds with a creature from another world, the Whisperer is a half-caster class with a focus on intelligence.

In addition to the magical abilities provided by their study in the arcane, they gain a magical companion that they can summon, talk to, and grow with over the course of the adventure.

These companions, called Wisps, are strong and will evolve along with the Whisperer as they work together to accomplish their dreams. Over time, the Wisps will acquire Traits which strengthen their abilities and provide new features for the Wisp to use both in and out of combat.

As the Relationship between the Whisperer and the Wisp, it will be defined by any of the following Bonds:

  • Bond of the Master: A Whisperer who amasses an army of Wisps to use at their disposal.
  • Bond of the Servant: The Wisp takes over the relationship in exchange for power or secrets
  • Bond of Equality: You are equals on and off the battlefield. You cover each other weaknesses and support your strengths.
  • Bond of Unity: The Wisp and Whisperer are united on all fronts, and can become one.
  • The Fractured Bond: By tearing open the Soul Bond, the Whisperer gains access to more powerful magic powers, but loses the ability to grow stronger with their Wisp.

What powers the Whisperer is their versatility to a party and to the player. A complete 20 level class with 5 archetypes currently, and more possibly on the way. Feedback and reviews are crucial to improving this class and I welcome all criticisms.

I hope you enjoy this class, and it proves a wonderful addition to your game.

1.12: New Ability added to Bond of Equaity, duration changed on bond of unity, Multiclassing, new formating, and additional changes.

1.13: Tons of new changes to the class from new spell structure, Wisp abilties, and more!

1.2: The Fractured Bond was Introduced, Document was updated with improved Formatting, Unity was reviewed and improved, and finally, other Flavor Texts and Notes were added to the document.

I have been looking into ways to improve or update the class in the past few months; however, I have had trepidation in making any changes as I feel the class has found some stable ground. Any ideas would be welcomed.

I do have a question,in the GROWTH LIST
does the enlarge or the reduce options can they be selected only once or can they be taken more than once? it does not say that it cannot but I have show it to some people and it is a division some say that it can or not,so I wonder if it can
cause what if someone wants to make ther whips huge or gargantuam?

In the Text, for the Enlarge Feature, it says the Wisp is considered a Large Sized Creature when this feature is chosen. Thus, it does not become bigger then a Large Size Creature.
However, a player could take the feature multiple times if they wish to optimize their wisp through the Strength and Constitution Boosts.
For those wanting a Huge or Gargantuan sized Wisp, I would refer to the DM.

Same for the Reduce Feature, the Wisp goes from a medium to a Small-Sized creature. It cannot become smaller then the Wisp already is in terms of category, but can still gain from the attribute boosts.

That sounds amazing! Please feel me in on what happens. I know from my table, a Player used this class and their Wisp changed size from their Original Realm to the Material Plane and it had a complex because it was now way smaller then it use to be.

Just to ensure everything worked accordingly, has everyone received the most recent update to the Whisperer class?

Why Intelligence? Wouldn't Charisma be better for making deals with wisps?

Sure, the reason why Intelligence was chosen was because it isn't swaying the Wisp to join you like a Warlock seeking a Patron. The soul bond is done through an arcan ritual, similar to a find familiar spell; therefore, intelligence was chosen to reflect that. A Wisp does not have to like their Whisperer, or even want to share their soul, but most Wisps want something and will agree to these deals in hopes of accomplishing that.

Arcane doesn't equal Intelligence, it not a real issue but I see it more often that people have been creating Int base classes just because a lack of them in PHB. Maybe I haven't found them but if I do play this class, I will most likely homebrew Cha base. Great job on the class.

I can assure you intelligence was not chosen just because of the lack of int based classes. The theming was more of a ritual or knowledge of the other worlds. <br>
The Whisperer as written is not the power of their personality, but the power of studying and knowing this rare, or new field of magic. <br>
Regardless, I understand the reasoning behind the charisma base if that is what you decide. I wish you the best and I am glad you are enjoying the class so far!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
