"A solid adventure with a good variety of locations, characters, situations, and encounters. It would be a worthy purchase by itself, but certainly leaves me interested to see where the author will take the story next." - Alex C.

This 104 page volume tells the entire first story-arc of the Laughing Horde of Ruin adventure campaign. Kiss of the Viper contains over 80 pages of content for level 1-5, two huge dungeons, an original class with three subclass options that is built around an animal companion, as well as three new feats.

PrintedBook

Chapter 1 - When a relative of someone close to the characters goes missing from a nearby village, the players are asked to investigate. The party has to recover stolen goods from a thief before setting out from the City of Ravens Bluff. They travel through the wilds of Vesperin in search of the missing person, finding trouble and helping locals along the way.

Chapter 2 - As the journey continues, the party arrives in a small hamlet suffering from a strange blight. The players will need to investigate the situation and choose sides in a longstanding feud between the mayor and a local magic user.

Chapter 3 - After clearing a tribe of violent orcs from a nearby mountain pass to protect the residents of a town, the party will have to enter the lair of a long-dead dragon to rescue their quarry from a band of goblinoid slavers, where they discover an entrance into a dwarven city, lost and forgotten centuries ago.

Chapter 4 - The party will have to traverse the ruins of the dwarven city, avoiding hazards and battling the horrors that lurk there, to uncover the identity of the slaver's leader. A discovery that will lead them through a treacherous forest to the city of Tsurlagol in search of a pirate ship called the Star Carver, and its drow captain, The Viper's Kiss. Along the way, they meet an unlikely ally.

Chapter 5 - Once they arrive in Tsurlagol, the players will have to choose between gaining the assistance of the city council to fight the pirates head on, or making a deal with the Viper's Kiss, herself. The path they choose will either lead to an epic battle on the Sea of Fallen Stars, or into the deadly sewers and tunnels beneath the city to face an enclave of wererats, undead, and a tribe of mad, kraken-worshipping kuo-toa, in search of a fabled relic. Either path leads to revelations of the larger plot, and sinsiter forces at work within the realms.

The Laughing Horde of Ruin: Kiss of the Viper is designed for characters level 1-5, and uses material from the Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual, and Volo's Guide.

The campaign module also includes the Wildsoul Class and three subclasses.

- The Steel Fang focuses on martial skills rather than magic, and excels in coordinated combat.

- The Thorn Talon, which uses powerful druidic magic and has the ability to merge their physical forms with that of their companion to gain powerful benefits specific to its type.

and

- The Primal Fury, which utilizes a limited wizard spell list in conjunction with additional skill proficiencies and can enhance their companion with the raw power of the elements.

Anywhere that the worlds of men and beasts converge, you can find the Wildsoul. Gifted people with the power to magically bond with a representative of the vast wilderness and then train them to assist in their efforts.

The Wildsoul is a brand new class for 5th edition D&D that focuses on an animal companion as the core of the class, rather than part of the sub-class. Feeling a bit let down by the Beastmaster Ranger? Love your Druid, but miss the days where you had an animal companion? Look no further.

A pack of 14 digital, full-scale, 1"x1" grid custom battle maps for use with this title is also available.

Note: This product has been edited based on initial feedback. Layout has been revisited, chapter 2 has recieved extensive editing, and additional art has been added throughout. I would greatly appreciate ratings or reviews from customers that have purchased the adventure to help make it possible for me to work on the follow-up. Thank you so much for your support!

Hi Adam, I'm sorry I missed your earlier message.

I am really trying to find the time and motivation to get back to working on the second part of the story more regularly. I'm currently tinkering with ideas on how to structure the initial sandbox part of the adventure in the city so that players can explore at will regardless of their level.

I apologize that I haven't been able to commit the time and effort required to release the content sooner, but it is still a project that I am working on when I have time. I wish I had better news. I'm very sorry for the continued delay but I also really appreciate your interest.

Wow, thanks so much for the support Linda! I really hope you have fun running the first arc.

I am in the process of creating detailed maps of Telflamm and it's different districts, as well as crafting the encounters that players will find there in the follow-up arc, whenever I have time. Unfortunately, looking for full-time work has been keeping me from devoting as much time as I'd like to the second book, but I am working on it. Thanks again!

Hi Sam,

The second book, of three I have planned, is definitely something I would still like to return to and complete. Not to make excuses, but I have not been in a place to do the work required since the release of the first book. Life has been chaotic, at best, and sometimes downright hostile over the last two years or so, unfortunately. But I am hoping that I might be able to get back to it in the new year. The story is important to me and I feel terrible that I have left people waiting for the continuation of the story for so long.

My sincere apologies for the extended delay, and I appreciate the support and interest.

Cheers,
James

Hi James,

I am thinking of running this for my group and was wondering when the next part of the adventure might appear?

Hi Stewart, I saw your post on Twitter and left a response, but for other people wondering the same thing here: My original plan was to write up chapters/levels 6-10 which cover the second full arc of the story by early 2019. That would include encounter design, artwork, layout, etc., it's a very time-consuming process for one person.

However, due to personal challenges and a general lack of interest in the first arc, I had to put the project aside for the time being. Once I get things back on track, I hope to start fleshing out the Telflamm/Thay arc. My best estimate is that I might have something finished some time mid/late next year. If I decide to release the chapters individually as I finish them, you could see something sooner. Kiss of the Viper does cover 5 levels of play however, and can require well over 40 hours to play through depending on your group's play-style.

Thanks for your interest, and I hope that helps with your decision.

There's an image of the print proof here: https://twitter.com/LaughingHorde/status/1019342623432011776

The trim was a little off in this proof, but that issue was corrected in the actual published file.

A note on high DCs: While designing the story and encounters in The Laughing Horde of Ruin, I tried to envision all of the possible methods that players might use to tackle a specific problem and give the DM some guidance. Even when an action is extremely difficult to accomplish, there is always a chance that it might succeed, so I built in some guidelines for those situations.

As always, the DM has the authority to adjust as they see fit. But the DCs are included to help the DM get a feel for the situation and many have caveats included to lower the DC or gain advantage on the check. Cheers!

Hi James,

I'm looking to pick this up soon and give it a thorough read-through and review. I want to note, though, that your preview indicates that your product uses at least one image from an official WOTC map. WOTC maps that aren't on this site freely under "Resources for DMG creators" aren't permitted for Guild products. There may be a community-made map here on the site free or for purchase that could substitute your page 2 map without this issue.

I look forward to reading the module!

Thanks for the heads up, Alex. That map is the only artwork in the book that I didn't create myself and I believed it was available to use for community content when I added it, as an official WoTC reference. I will replace it as soon as possible with another version, although it might not be as pretty.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the module!
Cheers,
Jim

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
