NOTE: this contribution is now obsolete, as a new, better version of it has been included in my Multiversatility – Player’s Options Pack.

My word is truth, what I deny is falsehood”,

also translated as:

With my word I can render true that which is untrue.”

Atharvaveda, VI, 61, 3.

Few other classes display such an inborn adaptability as the bard does. Skalds, orators, jesters, poets… all of them are bards, from a D&Desque point of view.

And the bard, you should know, is one of my favorite D&D classes. Despite all my propensity, however, I never published before any bard subclass: for the Player’s Handbook’s colleges seemed broad enough to encompass many different bard archetypes. The Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, however, introduced us to a different set of colleges, whose niches are less wide but offer more distinctive features. Why be a simple member of the College of Lore when you could enter a different path that works out better for the character you had In mind?

And so came a few interesting ideas, and rules to back them.

The College of Dance creates a nimble, elusive and highly defensive bard, whose magic steps are as powerful as a mage’s words of power.

The College of Demagogy is the ideal choice for bards that aspire to become ultimate leaders, driving their fellows to either good or foolish ends.

The College of the Exemplar emphasizes the strong character and attention-seeking behavior inborn in every bard, with an array of features worthy of a paragon adventurer that leads by example.

The College of the Harlequin is, apparently, a college for twirling buffoons and performers of trite slapstick comedy; however, as they progress along this path and their power grows, the bards of the Harlequin show the true nature behind their chosen mask.

And don't miss the College of Laughter Eternal, the latest addition to the collection! Brandish jokes and laughs like deadly weapons, embrace the grinning cackle and teach them what a true fool could achieve.

The College of Pristine Utterance, on the contrary, is for those bards who pursue true arcane power and have no time for jokes and jests. There is power in every word, and magic in every music, the echo of the Pristine Utterance that created the whole Multiverse, and their words are the most similar to the original ones.

Along with them, I introduce two bard class variant that, by focusing on different spellcasting abilities, open a whole new perspective for bard loreseeker and wordseer players.

The whole Colleges of Renown booklet is illustrated with themed pictures and true pieces of art, like the cover itself, a XIX century painting by Ingres depicting Ossian, the fictional depiction of the fabled Irish hero Oisìn whose albeit forged works were a huge hit on XVIII century and spread the name “bard” across Europe.

And remember: if you have any suggestion, please write a review and comment. I'm more than eager to update my works to make them more suitable.

Note: if you find any of these world-renowned pieces of art to be vulgar, outrageous, or even a profanity, perhaps you should reconsider playing a bard, or even allowing one of your character to play such an improper class. You should rather consider my Inquisitor background, also available in my Backstories collection.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
