Mad Scientist: The Reanimator

The Mists of Ravenloft have arrived in the Forgotten Realms, and life there will never be the same. The Mists have corrupted and twisted the Weave.

One of the most dramatic changes to the world is the arrival of Dark Science, the dangerous and forbidden study of the universe's secrets--secrets the gods want to keep hidden from mortals. The rise of Dark Science has brought forth its devoted practitioner, the Mad Scientist.

Inside, you will find information about a new character class, the Mad Scientist, and its archetype, the Reanimator. In addition, you will find tables and ideas for designing your character's construct, two new character backgrounds, new equipment, and the new Experiment system, a source of power that allows your mad scientist to control and manipulate the world.

This product is part of the Haunted Realms campaign setting—a post-magipocalyptic merging of Ravenloft with the Forgotten Realms. Other products in this line currently include:

• The Stitched: A Player Character Race (/product/193430/The-Stitched)

• The Revenant: A Player Character Race (/product/194433/Revenant-The-Vengeful-Dead)

• The Old Curiosity Shop: An adventure for 3rd-level characters (/product/199935/The-Old-Curiosity-Shop?src=newest_in_dmg)

The Magic of Books is a product for adding a touch of character to books found as treasure, spellbooks, and the like.

Any idea if you'll be adding more subclasses to this Class? I really like it as is, but just feel it's limited with only one subclass option before it.

Very cool class and something I'm considering for my character in our Curse of Strahd campaign. Do you have any guidance on multi classing? My character is a Cleric who is fascinated with harnessing the secrets of the undead, so this seems like a good option to multi class into, but not sure whether it would share spell slots like other casters or should be independent like certain martial abilities would be.

For multiclassing with the reanimator:

Ability score minimum: Int 13
Proficiencies gained: simple weapons, Medicine, and one skill from the reanimator's skill list

For determining available spell slots when multi classing with another spellcaster, count one-half (rounded down) of the reanimator's levels (similar to ranger or paladin).

Hope that helps!

Any chance there are some examples of Pre-Gens for this character class to review? I find I'm really good when I have something to compare a new character class with.

Does anyone know how to play this in a regular DnD 5e compaign? I ask because the Intelligence (Dark Science) bit is a bit confusing. Do you just add it to the list of stuff your proficiences or does it replace one of the proficiencies already there?

Apologies for any confusion. I would simply add the new skill to existing proficiencies, since it is a fairly narrow skill.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
